had poor looking graphics in OpenGL (distant objects blurry and other
problems) so I used D3D. The frame rate hit was minimal.
Now I have OpenGL still running faster frame rates than D3D, but it looks
gorgeous. The cars are now almost like NH cars. The detail and clarity is
awesome in the cars and the surroundings. I am running 1600 x 1200
resolution because the frame rate hit vs. 1280 x 968 at the worst spots on
the tracks is only 1 fps!!!! There are a lot of nVIDEA/OpenGL adjustments
that make a huge difference to the look on your screen. Too bad I was not a
Quake-head or something--it might not have taken me so long to get
everything set properly.
Very happy with graphics at this point. It now looks like the next
generation graphics engine after GPL. Still too many jaggies, but....
Now all I need is a 2 GHz CPU to handle the AI during the plentiful
multi-car pile-ups.
