Hi racers,

when I drive GPL, the screen sometimes freezes for, let us say,
half a second or so. It varies though. And this happens for. ex.
3 to 4 times in a 4 lap race at Bremgarten.

I guess it must have something to do with the program saving the
rpy-file?

Should I change some system settings? Or perhaps I should edit
the replayMemoryOverride = 20000 in the core.ini? How much larger?

My system: AMD 1.1 GHz, 256MB ram, GeForce2 GTS, Sony 17" Triniton,
GPL 1.2. with 3D3-patch, vsync off

I get a similar problem, but just once just as I
leave
the pits, or just after the flag drops in a race,
It happens on all tracks every time without fail.

SDRAM,
Voodoo 3 3000, GPL 1.2 in glide.

Sorry I can't help Arto, But similar problem,
might be similar cause.

I don't get any hiccups in gpl..in other sims I do tho..I guess the first
place to look is the drivers...are yours up to date? The last set of
official
3dfx drivers were released between November 11th and November 20th.
Your default replay value shouldn't be causing a problem unless you are
VERY low on memory AND harddrive space. Do the boring things first...
scandisk and defrag your hard drive. Use cnrtl-alt-delete to turn off any
background programs you don't need.
I'm not sure about the GTS..but there are some bios settings that can
affect performance..make sure you visit a Nvidia fan site and get some
tweeks for the GTS. (I believe the agp setting is especially critical)
Also make sure your soundcard drivers are up to date as well. Good luck

I have same Problem, a stutter after leaving pits or start.If anyone has any
ideas it would be a help.
I have all the latest drivers etc.

Same here. It happens random with allmost the same system except a
voodoo 5 and 128 mb ram. any ideas would help. Thanks.

Interesting...

I thought it was because of my old system (233MMX, 32 MB, VooDoo 2), but as
you have the same with 1.1 GB, 256 MB and VooDoo5...

It happens at Bremgarten much more than at other tracks, but I wasn't too
surprised because the frame rate at Bremgarten is appr. 20; at Monza I run a
'solid' (ahem...) 30-32.

I've just started getting this as well - so far I've only noticed it at
Bremgarten, but then again I've just installed DirectX 8, so that might be
it.

Quite an improvement in framerate with DX8 as well - with full detail at
Bremgarten I was getting 20fps in the trees, and it went up to 30. Still
not good enough though - it causes a strange type of instability, which goes
away if I set track objects to "few".

I'm using an Nvidia Model 64, which is far slower than the Voodoo 3 I used
to have (before it overheated).

Come back 3dfx, all is forgiven!

I get the brief freezes on the first lap only - apparently it is loading
textures to RAM, or something like that. They are always on the exact same
place on the track. E.g. on Silverstone just at the entry of the 2nd last
turn - easily makes you spin off, and just before going under the bridge
before last turn.
I am desperately looking for a fix for this...

My system:
AMD K7 600MHz, TNT2 Ultra 2X AGP 32MB, 256MB RAM

You get freezes with THAT system? Whoa... What resolution and graphics level
are you running. I must have missed it if you stated earlier. I have a K6-3
400 and I don't have a problem in that location. 1024X768, detail slider left
of center, most textures off in mirrors...

My settings are the same. I am using the DX driver which gived the best frame
rate - I believe the stutter disappears with the OpenGL driver, but it's
too slow to be preferred. I am pretty certain that the pause at Silverstone
happens when the farm enters the world for the first time.
It is tempting to get a Geforce2 card to see if that helps, but I am not sure
it will...
