N2 Multiplayer Scenarios

by ccorpor » Sat, 21 Dec 1996 04:00:00

I've previously documented at length about problems encountered while
participating in a multiplayer enviroments with Nascar 2.

Well I've been finding workarounds.

Before:

I could only race the same car on everyone's system.

After:

Realized that the Multi car list is the one and only list used for multiplayer
scenarios. Not documented.

So for ex. on one of the systems, I usually use the server system for this.
You need to modify that MULTI list in the order of who's playing. In a 4
player scenario you have to line each player up from top to bottom.

Player 1 on top
Player 2 in the two hole'
Player 3 in 3rd
Player 4 (you guessed it)

Before you do this though you need to clear out every car on the list, because
of the lameness on how the list screen works. Then add the human players first
then add-in the rest of the cpu drivers afterwards.

Save it.

Then copy this list to every player on the net. For quickness's sake just copy
the cars directory whole to each system.

At this time all systems have the same Multi-list.

If you don't make the copy, all the clients will kick back to windows when you
try to connect. They have to be identical.

So every time you change players you will have to empty the server multi list
and realign who's actually playing, add the cpu drivers and copy the multi
list to each client. You could be more generic I'm sure but I have a car for
each potential player (around 14) with their nicknames on the bumpers and
their initials on the side. It does make the racing funner for us.

Another little problem with this is that for some reason every usersname is
the sam. For example if the first dirvers name on the multi list is BOB, then
BOB show up as the racer for all the players. Now the car number and graphics
are unique and correct for each ssytem but for some reason the name is always
the car in the 1 hole.

So there ya have it. A way to have each person on the network be able to race
their own car, instead of everybody racing the same car.

Papyrussss. Papyrusssss. Papyrussss. Papyrussss. Papyrussss. Papyrussss.
