F1 2001 - Steup discussion.

I'm no expert, but here are some ideas.  Get the temps even across the
individual tire sections first.  Adjust pressure and camber until you
get it.  Then compare the tires from one side of the vehicle to the
other side.  The end of the vehicle with the most temperature difference
from side to side is the one that has the most uneven grip.  Most likely
you want the temps nearly even in the rear and some slight temperature
difference between front left and front right (the front left will
usually be warmer for F1).  Adjust springs and bars until you get there.
You might want to do this with minimal wing settings in order to not
fool yourself with an unbalanced aero setup.  Then you could start
cranking up the wing settings, keeping an eye on high speed handling and
your speed at the end of the longest straight in addition to the temps.
After all that, if they still aren't hot enough, drive faster!!

x-no-archive: yes

From the config file, I found that the optimal tyre temp is 85C. This
converts to 185F.

So, the way I see it, you need to get a setup that allows you to run the
tyres at this temp.

Does it really matter how this is achieved? Different driving styles
require different setups, but providing all tyres are as close to
optimal temp as possible, then surely that's going to result in the
fastest setup for that driver?

I'm struggling with how tyre temp is affected. I think I just went
through this scenario...

Going out with a setup, I discovered that the car understeered, so I
reduced cornering speed to sompensate. After a few laps, it's apparent
that I'm not quick enough, so I go into the pits, and add more wing.
This doesn't seem to help, I add more, and things just get worse.

In the above scenario, the front tyres aren't getting hot enough, so I
get less than optimal grip from the front ones, hence understeer. Upping
the front wing, just makes the situation worse. If I actually REDUCE the
front wing, initially I get more understeer, but if I carry on pushing
the car, the fronts heat up, get to optimum temp, then start delivering
loads of grip.

I think!?

I know that the camber and tyre pressures can be used to get a uniform
temp acress each tyre, but I'm finding it hard to get even temps on both
sides of the car.

So my questrions are...

Initially, what makes both tyres on an axle run hotter and cooler?

Then when the hardest worked tyre's close to optimum, how do you get the
other one to run hotter?

I'm really struggling here.

I'm assuming that if a tyre has too much grip, then it will run cool,
and not enough will make it run hot.

I need a list of things to change in the correct order, I think...

Would I be right in saying that you start with, say, the default setup.
Then, adjust the camber and pressure to get uniform temps across the
tyres.
Then you need to start playing with suspension to get even temps across
an axle.
Then adjust downforce to get optimum temp?

I'm really struggling here! ;-)
