by Txl » Sat, 21 Jul 2001 19:51:20

Hello,

just starting with this N4 and I'd like to try the online thing.
So with GPL the answer is VROC, but with n4 ?

Thx

There's a matching service built in. Just go to the Multiplayer and
click on the Sierra.com icon.

N4 multiplayer online ?

Thanks for the info but I have installed the nocd patch from GCW and
sierra.com doesn't recognize my game (what a surprise !!)

So where's the "N4 VROC" which won't check if my underpants are blue and my
game is patched or not ?

Thanks

The only solution other than entering ip #'s directly is to make an image
of your cd with larry's Deamon Tool method.  Then you can race online with
the latest patch and not need the cd.

so if i understood well i have to make a 600 megs image of the cd and leave
it on my HD so that these idiots at sierra.com think the cd is in the drive
?

Dave, does the game start up any faster reading off the harddisk rather than
the cd drive? That would be a plus, and possibly reason enough to try it,
besides not needing the disc in the damn drive.

I can't say right now Ed,
I had it on my Tbird system, but until that is back functioning, I'm
running a Piii 500 and avoiding the big cpu-sucking sims.  I have the image
file on my hd but not the daemon tools so I can't try it even to make
sure...
I don't recall it loading much differently...Some sims like F1cs2k load up
much quicker with the nocd because you don't have to load the movie.
However with the daemon mounted N4...I just can't remember.
anyone else have it setup this way?

If you actually own the game and have a valid CD key, just use CloneCD to
create an ISO of the CD, then use DaemonTools 2.74 to mount the CD as a
virtual ISO file.

Not only can you put the CD away for safe keeping, but you can race online
just fine.

If you don't actually own the game, you're on your own.

You could look at it that way.

Or you could look at it like this.

You can race online, you never have to juggle CD's again, and your master CD
is tucked safely away in it's box away from the dog & the kids.

You choose :)
