Motorsims Announces SCCA CAN-AM PC Racing Simulation

Motorsport Simulations today announced the development of SCCA Can-Am,
an online and retail boxed PC CD-ROM racing simulation. Launching in
early 2000, this title is the first to be developed under Motorsims
long-term partnership with the Sports Car Club of America.

Motorsims goal is to offer racing enthusiasts an exact simulation of
the road-racing endurance challenges that made the sport one of the
most popular series of the early 70s. The game will utilize the
companys proprietary game-engine technology, designed as an online
*** system and dedicated to the specific demands of racing
simulations. In Can-Am, famous chassis and engine manufacturers
combined to create open-air, closed wheel cars. In addition, Motorsims
will include SCCAs popular SpecRacer Ford series racing as a training
mode.

Actually I think it's based on the current cars, and not the 70's cars.   Not
100% sure on that though.

1970's CAN-AM SIM ANNOUNCED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by David Er » Wed, 30 Jun 1999 04:00:00

I got the impression from reading the article at
http://www.racesimcentral.net/
current crop of Can _AM cars, not the monsters of the '70's. The screenshots
are very small but the car modelled in them looks like a modern one. It even
models specracer Ford as a trainer series. If it has physics that even
approach GPL's I'll still buy it in a heartbeat since the "feel" and the
racing are  the important things for me.

True enough, the car in the shots is a rather pooly drawn Riley & Scott MkIII
(Probably because it's at an early stage
of the sim). But what the heck, if we give 'em a hard time, and get a
paintkit/car editor.....yummy!
My only "worry" is that we'll only get have the modern tracks. But what the hey,
I second David,
if the physics are there, I'd love to try the R & S, Ferrari 333SP etc!

Here's to Motorsims!

Unfortunately, the era of the "real" Can-Am had finished by the years that
this sim represents rolled around.

I do believe that it will have both.  The screenshots at
www.simracingnews.com are of the modern WSC cars.

What about GPL! :)

1970's CAN-AM SIM ANNOUNCED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Mark S. Mille » Wed, 30 Jun 1999 04:00:00

First, a clarification ... the first Can-Am game will be the current era
cars. Next season's cars, most likely (meaning we're watching BMW very
closely). Spec Racer Ford will also be included as a way to learn the tracks
and for online depth.

The current plan is to follow this game immediately with a "retro-pak" to
the glory days of '67-'73. We should even be able to get some of the old
tracks - Riverside, etc.

The car in our screenshots was sort of a concept car - taking bits from
various different designs. Since we'll target V3's (w/V2 support) chances
are very good to allow custom paint jobs. We should have the network
infrastructure in place to handle sharing these too.

Physics will surpass GPL. Really. Wait for the press releases and all will
become clear.

We'll also have night and rain and fog and all that miserable crap. Be
careful what you wish for.

Man, if these guys will deliver even a "tenth" of what they are set out to
do,
well be a bunch a very happy people in six or seven months....There seams
to be "justice" after all...i feard the simracing community was dying out,
after
hearing the sad news about TAR, and poor sales figuers for GPL.

Luckely thats NOT the case...

Cheers to Motorsims!

mark, you're a beautiful man.

i'll go an extra $50 just for the riverside track alone. we here in SoCal
mourn the loss of this baby.
sounds like you guys are doing a good job on the marketing end by building a
solid base through current era racers, and then rewarding the geeks (like
myself) with the glory days pack.

That's very interesting Mark! Can you give us some specific areas on which
you've focused, aside from environmental effects such as rain and night,
that make you comfortable in announcing that the physics will surpass GPL?

Thanks! Sounds intriguing.

(snip era clarification)

Excellent news! I eagerly await further information. (but hey take your
time, get it right. At least 2 weeks)
I love miserable ***particularly inconsistant crap! Can I hope for
puddles? Dirt thrown on track by previous racers offs? Hot dog wrapper in a
brake duct?(OK maybe not that :) )
