I tried a tnt2 on a cel 450 with the same results using all the advice i
could  find.  I dunno how others manage it, maybe its a cpu issue

Since you don't have flashing mirrors, I assume that for your Geforce OpenGL
Settings that you have the buffer flipping mode set to "use block transfer".
Also make sure that you have vertical sync set to "off by default".  If it's
on, that sucks up a few frames.  Check everything under performance and
compatibility options except for the last box (or last two boxes, if you're
using a 5.x beta driver--and if you are, and can run in anything but 640x
res, please let me know how you're doing it. <g>).

If doing that doesn't get you where you want to be, then you're going to
have to upgrade the processor, settle for lower graphic detail or lower res,
or put the V3 back in just to play GPL.

I did all the things mentioned here in order to get GPL running with GeForce
cards... I have the Open GL beta2 installed latest Sierra patch no flashing
mirrors .... SO the game looks ok but where did the frame rate go? The never
bellow 36 fps (except on starts) with my old V3 are gone, now I max at 26 in
precise? Any way to speed things up? All I have changed was the graphic
board. I have a Cel 450 128MB and Asus V6600 deluxe... and the smooth fps
were
with the V3 3000.

In general, it seems that the TNT/GeForce cards require more CPU power than
their 3dfx/Voodoo counterparts.  Usually, this doesn't matter, since the
TNT/GeForce cards can produce higher quality images.

Anyway, to make matters worse, the OpenGL rasterizer for GPL doesn't seem
to be finished and/or very well implemented.  Add to that the fact that
NVidia always seem to have poor drivers, and, well... :-/

I think that if you had an Athlon 700, you wouldn't notice a difference.
i.e, throw enough horsepower at the poor OpenGL patch and NVidia drivers,
and the problem goes away.

In addition to the above, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you go into your
core.ini and set your mirror refresh rate to something other than 1.
I have a GeForce and this is what did the trick for me.  I have mine
set to 4, which means the mirrors refresh every fourth frame.  Keep
bumping that number up til you get a good frame rate.

Yeah that's kinda what I figured, but I must correct you the GeForce cards
take some load of from the CPU besides being few percent faster than other
boards... So far that is...

Nope the fps stay the same no matter how much I degrade the graphics... I
can run all the resolutions!? I have the 3.68 detonator now!, but it also
worked with the latest asus (3.78) and  D5.14  drivers!? All under the open
GL and D3D settings is set to provide faster performance!, I don't see why
you're stuck with 640*480?

I don't know if this applies to the GeForce. I have a TNT and was able to run
at 1024x728 but was getting about .5 fps.  Someone here suggested editing a
line in my win.ini file under[DrawDib] called DVA=0 and changing it to DVA=1.
Worked like a charm.  Didn't seem to affect other applications, and can easily
be changed back.  By the anybody know what this line does?

I'm using a TNT2. I checked my Win.ini out of curiousity and only had
the line below. No DVA entry.

[DrawDib]
pnpdrvr.drv 1024x768x16(565 0)=37,5,5,5

Me, either.  Since that problem only occurs with the 5.x drivers, I figure
it has something to do with the FSAA.  But I still get the 1/4 size, clipped
screen even with the FSAA turned off in both places I've found where it can
be enabled.   It's no real problem, since everything works fine with the
3.77 drivers.

The only *problem* there was is that Messiah REQUIRED the 5.x drivers!  Ever
hear of something requiring beta drivers before?  Neither have I, and that's
one reason why *that* is no longer a problem.

You're exactly right. On my new Athlon 700 rig, running a TNT2 (Detonator
3.77 driver), and 128 MB PC-133 memory, I get a butter smooth 36 fps at
1024x768 with every detail setting maxed out, and ~30 on starts. And this is
with a mirror refresh rate of 2. If I'm racing with a full field of AI, I
bring the detail down to 80% to compensate, and still get 36 fps. The
Athlon's killer FPU definitely helps. Cost me a bundle, but I'm cracking my
lap records every hour now with the smoother display, and I love it.
