Ah!  This is *exactly* what I wanted to hear!

Now I'm going to save for an Athlon 700 (or Spitfire/Thunderbird).  :-)
By the way, I take it your other games run pretty well?  Have you tried
F1-2000?

Is this the 'detail bias' slider?  80% sounds great to me!!!  I currently
have it on 0%!  :-(

Hi
Hmmmmmm, i've been running a TNT on a PII400 for two years now, and GPL always ran
perfectly, although***pit view is unusable due to only being about 20fps
now i'm getting a new comp and will have to relearn all the tracks from***pit
view

Hi
put the 3.77 openGL .dll in your GPL folder, this will force gpl to use this
instead of the 5.xx
should solve all your problems!!

My P3/800 gives me everything on except cars only in the mirrors-- with the
Geforce 256, mirror refresh 1--and at 1280x1024.  Brief drop to mid 20s at
start of a race, and 30+ the rest.

I had a steady 36 at 1024*768 everything on but with the bias slider at
20-30%. with a cel 450 128 ram and V3!!! Your platform is probably 2x faster
than mine and you only get 30+ while in race!? You need to turn the details
down a bit or something!
I myself decided to forget about GPL since I don't plain to upgrade for old
games! (although not saying that GPL isn't worth it!) Same thing happened to
GP2 after two years I finally had a machine that could push GP2 in high res
with everything on, but with F1Rs and GPL I never went back to it. If
nothing better comes I'll come back to GPL if not the CD  is going to be
covered with dust soon!

Excellent.  Have you tried 640x480 or 800x600?  If so, what kind of
performance improvements do you see?  Would the frame rate stay at 36, or
could you put more detail in the mirrors?

This is undoubtedly because the 3dfx rasterizer in GPL is, well, rather
optimised for 3dfx/Voodoo cards.  This is because Glide is lower-level,
because it is specific to 3dfx/Voodoo.

With the OpenGL rasterizer, we have to cope with *another* layer of
hardware abstraction, dodgy drivers from NVidia, and the fact that it is
destinctly beta.

Haven't really tried anything but 1280x.  The only thing I care about seeing
in the mirrors is the cars.  Since I have everything else turned on and
frame rates stay above 30 (frequently maxing at 36), and the race start drop
to the mid 20's is barely noticeable, there doesn't seem to me to be much
point in sacrificing overall detail for the sake of irrelevent mirror
detail.  I could actually run at 1600x in the 30s if I were willing to
eliminate drawing a few cars and drop the mirror refresh rate a bit.

I imagine that at 640x res I could turn on most if not all the mirror
detail, but I'm not going there because, frankly, that res looks like ***
after running at 1280x.

Hello,
Yes my pII450 + TNT was also OK (1024x768 = 36 fps and about 20-25 at starts in
***pit with some toning down of graphics), until the line I mentioned below was
added, probably by one of the many demos I installed.  -Keith
