For those of you who might be interested here are some FPS numbers from N4
and my new system.
My system
Asus P4T Motherboard
P4 1.5 Ghz
Visiontek GeForce 3
512 RAMBUS
I am using the latest nVidia drivers.
N4 - 1024 x 768 x 32
All options on
All details full.
20 cars drawn ahead and 6 behind.
World detail full
Draw ahead distance - 75%
Mirror - 25%
Without any FSAA on I get 75 FPS 98% of the time. However, when in turn 4 of
a big track with a lot of cars around me it may briefly dip down to 50.
Another situation where the FPS drops of some is at the start of a race with
all the cars bunched up.
If I use 2x FSAA then its a solid 37 which may briefly dip to 25 in that
same graphically intensive instances mentioned above.
If I use nVidia's Quincunx FSAA its the same FPS as above but looks as good
as 4X. Looks amazing actually!
The FSAA really makes a massive difference in N4.
I have raced some big races online and found the FSAA not to be a problem
during those brief drops in FPS. In fact 25 FPS on my new system feels a
heck of a lot smoother than 25 FPS on my old P2 400 with a GeForce 1.
Either way, the drop is so brief it not even noticeable if you are focussed
on the race.
If I was going to race some super serious competition I might turn the FSAA
to have max frame rates but so far it feels really smooth 98% of the time
and looks awesome.
I must say I am really blown away by N4. I was waiting until I got a GF3
before I bought it. such a vast improvement of the previous Papy Nascar
games. My hats off to the guys at Papyrus. Thanks for going with Open GL
guys, I am not a huge fan of D3D.
nVidia rules!!!
If you would like a specific benchmark to be made in N4 I would be happy to
get it for you.
Adios
