N2 Patch Useless; Re-Installing Old Version

by Kirn Crom » Mon, 28 Apr 1997 04:00:00

Well, I've given the patch problem plenty of time and experimentation.
However, my car still lurches to the right for no apparent reason.
This happens periodically during every practice and race at
superspeedways.  I believe it even happens at short tracks, but the
car seems to remain more stable in those cases.

So, it's into the trash bin with the patch and into the hard drive
with the old version of N2.  This is rediculous.  We waited months for
a patch, and it would be great if it weren't for this nonsense.  Does
Papyrus even test these patches before releasing them?  At least on
VARIOUS machines?  Problems with a patch make no sense.  They defeat
the entire purpose.  Anyway, if someone finds a solution, I'd love to
hear it.  Until then, the patch is useless.

Did you re-calibrate your steering. Bear in mind some changes
were made to the steering code I believe.

Do you own a T2 by chance as it seems a large majority of
folks with that wheel are having the lurching problem.

That's rather drastic!
I certainly would not classify it as "unusable" by any means.
I've run on 8 tracks....super-speedways down to the half-milers and also
Sears Point and the Glen........the "lurch" has been experienced on
all....the effect less extreme on the shorter, slower tracks.

However, I've quickly become used to the fact of where it's going to
happen...that is, at what point on the track....and just change my line to
compensate.  I've also become used to approximately when it's going to
happen!

To me, this "bug" in no way makes the patch useless: the mere fact that the
save facility is included outweighs the "lurch".  No doubt Papy will sort
out the glitch; until then.... a BIG "THANK YOU, PAPYRUS"!!
