N99 Sound Volume Very Low????

N99 Sound Volume Very Low????

by Marc Collin » Sat, 05 Dec 1998 04:00:00

N99 seems to be working fine on my system except for a very low sound
volume.  Of course I have the master volume and engine volumes all set to
100% and I can barely hear them.  This is using a Windows98 volume that
blasts me out of the room with GPL unless I turn its volume down
substantially.  All other games have more than enough volume (I almost
always have to turn the internal volume level down).  Any ideas?  Is there
some sort of .INI setting somewhere that could be scaling back the volume?

Thanks,

Marc.

I have the very same problem, NASCAR 1999 is very low in volume while
GPL and even my Win98 sounds rattle the windows.

My Nascar2 sound has less volume now that I have installed GPL.  Really.  Or
maybe I'm losing my mind from too much racing.

I had the very same problem as you have.  I have a Sound Blaster PCI 64 sound
card, and had the exact same problem.  What fixed the sound was new drivers that
Creative Labs released on the 25th.  Check for new drivers for your sound card
and that may take care of the problem.

Here's why it may be so low for you.
Check what volume you have the spotter at.  At 50%, he's at full volume.
Anything over that and all other sounds are decreased and the spotter is
heard above everything else.
I tried mone at 50% and the engine sound was phenomenal!  Only trouble was,
I couldn't hear the spotter.  He was way too muffled.  Try playing around
with that volume and see what works best for you.

I already have the latest drivers installed.  I would hate to hear it with
the old ones!!!

Thanks.

N99 Sound Volume Very Low????

Thanks...you have hit the nail on the head--at least for me.

I can't get any positions on the sliders to work where I get reasonable car
sounds and can still hear the spotter.  Have you figured out a
combination???  If so, please share it with us!

This is obviously a bug in either the game or the sound card drivers.  Are
you using a SB PCI 128 or a different card?  We need to know who to ask to
fix this annoying problem.

Marc.

I have a SB AWE64 (ISA) - exact same problem.  Never thought I'd miss ole Ned's
voice this much.....

The answer to this problem is in the manual, bottom of page 29.  Max
volume for the spotter is 50%.  If you set it at greater than 50% it
CUTS the engine sounds and other sounds.  I set the spotters voice
down, and the engine sounds came back to where they should be.  Still
having a problem with getting a good balance though, where the engines
sound good and I can stil hear the spotter.  Seems like the whole
thing should still have a bit more volume.

Thanks...someone already pointed this out and also couldn't find an
appropriate balance...and I can't...and the default settings sure don't give
one.  What was wrong with the settings in N2??--they seemed to generate no
complaints.  Oh, but this is an upgrade!!!!

Marc.

If you figure out some good settings, let us know.

Realizing that NR99 is running through windows98(at least for me anyways), I
adjusted the main volume using the windows or soundblaster master volume
control.  Cleared up the problem instantly.

How did you clear up a problem that involves the balance of various sounds
inside the game?  What Windows setting allowed you to adjust the spotters
voice sound versus say the opponents engine sounds?

I hope you don't think all the rest of us reporting this problem are so
moronic as to not have properly adjusted the master volume level in Windows
9x before taking the time to write here and fiddle with sliders and and ask
for detailed help....  So if you have a specific solution to our specific
problem, please report it here!!!

Thanks,

Marc.

There are settings within the game for this I think. But I believe you have
said you looked at this already.

No I don't think this. But this is why I think the problem is specific
to your soundcard or soundcard driver, or both :-)
