Help needed - VROC, 56K USR

Hi all,

I've read not long ago that better connections could be achieved by
connecting at 33,6 kbps instead of 56 kbps.  I know there are init
strings to make a modem connect at a lower speed than its maximum
speed.  My question is:  does anyone know what is the string needed to
make my USR sportster 56k v.90 connect at 33,6 kbps?  The only way
I've found right now is to take the phone off hook while the 56k
handshake is going on, it will then fail and fallback to 33,6...  I'd
rather have it done automatically by windows...

Thanks for any info,

A. Renault

Oh well...

For those interested, I've found the string by myself.  Don't know if
there's another string that works, or if this one has unwanted effects
other than limiting connection speeds to 33.6, but here it is:

ATS32.6=1S32.5=1

I've had much more success at maintaining a stable VROC connection
when connected at 33.6 kbps rather than 56K.  I don't know why tho...
Maybe because there is less error-correction at lower speeds...

The higher speeds demand a clean phone line.  When the line gets "dirty"
the modems stop sending data back and forth and spend time trying to
renegotiate a speed at which the can reliably send data.  While this
re-training is going on, no data is being sent to the GPL host, and you
therefore get disconnected.
