Pedal Dead Zone With Ferrari Wheel in F12001

I guess I've gotten used to the pedal dead zone in F12001 with the F1 cars,
but it's really bothering me with the GT mod.

With both the F1 and GT cars, nothing happens with the throttle until it's
pressed about half way. Setting the z axis (throttle) sensitivity to 100%
helps a little. If I set it to 0%, it's nothing and then........blast off.

This is the only game under XP that I've had the problem. The tach in the
N2002 demo responds the moment I touch the throttle.

How many people here have this problem with the Ferrari wheel, and has
anyone heard of a fix?

Just when I thought I'd fixed every problem I had with XP, along comes this
one.  I've got ME on another partition and I was able to fix the deadzone
using DXtweak.  Strangely enough, I was so used to the deadzone that I
couldn't drive without it!  Unfortunately, DXtweak doesn't seem to have any
effect under XP.  I'm going to do some registry monitoring under ME and see
which values are modified by DXtweak and hopefully find an equivalent under
XP.  I'll let you know how it goes...

Is your wheel the Ferrari? Like I said, my Ferrari wheel is perfect under XP
in other games like the N2002 demo. It's only F12001.

If you're wheel is the MS, there is a known fix for it under XP even though
DXTweak isn't supposed to work under XP. You'll have to edit the registry.
Check the High Gear forums.

F12001 has some serious controller issues.  You've patched the game, I
trust....

I've tried the Ferrari wheel with GPL, N4, the N2K2 demo, Rally Championship
(which also has some controller issues of its own), NfS, yada-yada, and I
think the problem yer having with F12K1 is in the game.  Running under XP
would probably only exacerbate the problem.  Dual-boot?

Pedal Dead Zone With Ferrari Wheel in F12001

I solved all my very annoying controller problems (Guillemot Ferrari) in
F12001 by doing what I intuitively would have done from the outset had I not
read all the advice columns :)

Assuming your deadzone is OK in Windows (it must be if the other titles work
well), in the game set EVERY deadzone to 0 and EVERY controller slider to
100%.  All axes will work as they would in real life--100% linear.  The only
problem you will have is steering straight at high speeds, so you will have
to use a numerically low steering ratio in the set-up itself.  I use 12
degrees and it works perfectly in terms of enough lock to take corners or
get out of the pits.

God, the GT mod is awesome...

Pedal Dead Zone With Ferrari Wheel in F12001

Well, I've got a LWFF.  It's fine in every game except for F12001 as
well.  I think it may be a flaw in the way the game handles split
axis.  I don't think it's the fault of any particular wheel or Direct
X.

What operating system do you use?

I have those settings with my wheel right now and there is still a dead
zone.

When you sit in neutral and gently touch the throttle, you're absolutely
sure you hear your revs begin to rise immediately?

In F1RC and the N2002 demo, I have full linear pedal travel, but in F12001
it does nothing until the pedal is about half way down, and then the revs
finally begin to rise. I'm definitely not the only one with htis problem.
Others with the Ferrari and MS wheels have reported the same thing.

Pedal Dead Zone With Ferrari Wheel in F12001

by David G Fishe » Thu, 07 Feb 2002 15:07:41

I just turned off split axis to see what would happen and all of a sudden I
don't have the dead zone anymore. As soon as I touch the throttle pedal, the
revs begin to rise. It sure is nice to have more than an inch of pedal
travel to control the throttle (probably forced me to be a better driver),
but I do want split axis.

Just turned off split axis, and now I have full linear throttle control. As
soon as I touch the throttle the revs begin to rise. Whole new game. :-)
Hope ISI fixes this soon.

Pedal Dead Zone With Ferrari Wheel in F12001

by Phaso » Sat, 09 Feb 2002 06:13:18

I have the Ferrari wheel, but use CH non-pro pedals.  They work great in
every game I have except F2001.  I've tried everything including DXTweak and
Marc's solution below, and I still have that extremely annoying deadzone.
What settings am I supposed to change in DXTweak?  I set my pedals' deadzone
to 0 but it made no difference.

Thanks,

Yes, it works perfectly for me with split axis on Win98SE.  I am using the
1.23 drivers, which is likely what makes the difference.  The later drivers
for the wheel suck, but I am not sure what will work under XP.
