Guillemot Ferrari wheel dead zone probs!

by Luke Phillip » Mon, 06 May 2002 22:02:32

I just bought a guillemot ferrari wheel for my brothers computer, and took
it for a test run in gpl. For some reason about the first say, 10% has
nothing then after the 10% jumps instantly to 11%, then back to 0% if you
turn a bit less. Which basically makes it useless for trying to adjust your
line in a straight line, or just turning in general. Ive tried dx tweak and
set the settings to 0 but it didnt seem to fix it. The computer is running
win 98 and through the gameport on the soundcard.

Thanks
Luke

Maybe you need a net pot?  How does it react in the Windows calibration screen?

Guillemot Ferrari wheel dead zone probs!

by Luke Phillip » Tue, 07 May 2002 16:17:46

Actually i restarted it and now its not working, i think it has something to
do with the drivers because initally when i had it installed it had a funny
name listed for the wheel under usb, then when i restarted it and clicked
propereties it listed it as the guillemot racing wheel usb. Its like it has
a dead zone of 5%, then when it reaches 6% instead of registering it as 1%
it registers it as 6%, so the initail part of the steering is not there, and
is like driving with a keyboard. The crappy calibration screen it comes with
registers it ok, but when i calibrate it in GPL it shows that dead spot. I
now know its not a hardware thing because it was working ok before i
restarted it :(.. Any help would be appreciated

What is a net pot too?

Junk the software that come with the wheel and set it up as a
joystick.  It removes all the steering correction ***and makes it
linear.

Mine thinks it's an RL compact in Windows 98, and I'm using the USB
port.
i don't know how it got to be an RL compact - this isn't on the list
of standard controllers. I think that I set it up as a 2-axis 4 button
joystick.  However, 8 buttons work.  Try the simple generic setup -
you can't need more than 4 buttons?

Typo - I was suggesting that your wheel needed a *new* pot...<sigh>
Maybe *I* need some (new)pot, too... :-)
