I bought Guillemot Ferrari Force Feedback Racing Wheel last weekend and
would like to hear from other owners what setting they are using in GPL.

Mesa want a review !

Im only answering your question if you give us a review.  Of course I have
no idea of how to answer you since I do not own that wheel.. but that's the
trick I shouldn't tell you 8)

I'm not here to brag.  I only wanted some help setting the wheel up and
thought this would be a good place to start.

Well since it is a TM Force Feedback retread I think, he got the
worst wheel on the market. Plus it uses a whopping 3.5 million
CPU cycles for *EACH* FF event! The Logitech by comparison
uses only 50K CPU cycles per event. So if this is the TM wheel
I suspect a HUGE framerate hit.

Only a joke - I'm just insanely jealous...then again  - new monitor must
come first - I can hardly see what's written on this damned 14 inch
thing at 1024x768....

I have had no frame rate problems in GPL.  My PC is as follows:

P2 400, 64Mb RAM, 16Mb Riva TNT AGP

I use the OpenGL patch for GPL and with the mirrors set to refresh every 4th
frame, I get 34 to 36 fps using the wheel.  I had about 1 fps better
performance when I was using my Gravis XTerminator.

I've also just run a test in Rally Championship using the Fraps program and
get an almost identical framerate using the FF wheel.

I can't comment on Thrustmaster products as I have no experience of them and
haven't seen the wheel you refer to but in my experience there doesn't seem
to be a processor hot in GPL or Rally Championship.

How do you measure the processor hit anyway?  If there is some utility that
will do it, I'm happy to run some tests on my system.

I bought the wheel because I was able to get it a lot cheaper than its
competitors due to a pricing error in a shop and for me it does the job.  It
feels a quality product to me and I'm pleased with my purchase.  That what
really matters in the end.

Cheers

Guillemot Ferrari Force Feedback Racing Wheel Settings for GPL

Phil-
I bought one of these wheels yesterday in EB for full price ;-( in
desperation really as i seem unable to find a LWFF anywhere. This is not
to knock your purchase as different strokes for different folks apply
here as anywhere, but ......

Several things i find not to my liking but then i'm a picky sod.

There is a large amount of float (free play) in the wheel top bushing
allowing the wheel to wobble...if this was on a road car i would fail it
in an MOT<S>

The behind the wheel gear shift paddles are very soft to operate, give
no click feel and have a long throw to switch the gear, i'm never sure i
have actually managed to change.

The behind the wheel paddles for (optionally) using as gas/brake are so
small i can only use one finger on each.

This is actually what drew me to this wheel as at present i use a GP1
with big paddles for throttle/brake and i'm well used to it.

The floor mount pedals are very uncomfortable to use being high off the
base with lots of travel (good), but with swivel tops on its very hard
to control the amount of gas/brake when looking for small amounts. Your
foot ends up at a very weird angle and tires easy. CH pedals with heel
rests seem a much better bet here.

I really dont have much thats good to say about this wheel.....IMO the
price you paid for yours should be the top retail price!

As to FF, i dont have any previous experience of other wheels to judge
it by, so i wont try. I did try it in GPL and couldnt in the short time
i used it get it to my liking at all.....i didnt want full in your face
type feedback , just small feelings of what the car was doing and
couldnt seem to get it right.

Perhaps you would like to send me your settings so i can get an better
idea of what you enjoy.

Regards.

I have a PII 450 128Mb RAM 16Mb RIVA TNT AGP, but was not able to achieve your
framerates (24-26 at best) with the same mirror settings..
Which video drivers are you using?  Did you have to modify the OpenGL settings
in the display properties/settings/advanced... etc?

Well I just checked http://www.guillemot.com/northamerica/ and
the Ferrari wheel appears to be different from the TM wheels.
Guillemont is thrustmasters parent company and I was not
aware that Guillemont was making wheels on their own.

There may be a chance ( I hope) that you guys in the UK buying the Guillemot
wheel, are actually buying the older version. The  complaint about the
paddles now should be that they are too firm, whereas the older version was
too soft. The new version just went onsale last night in the US at the
Guillemot site, and its not in the EB stores here yet. The pre-release
review at MGPRS2.com mentioned the weak paddles, but in the updated review
said the paddles may now be too firm.

Phil, does your Guillemot wheel wobble because of too much free play the way
Mike's does?
