What wheel should I get?  I am considering the Logitech Wingman Formula Force
the most.

Micro Pro has the Ferrari wheel for $99. You have to mention Price Watch.
It's smooth, more powerful than the LWFF, has paddles and a stick shift and
a very good set of pedals.

If you're going to spend $170+ for the LWFF and CH pedals, why not consider
the Act Labs Force RS and RS Shifter for a few bucks more?

I may be in the minority as far as the CH Pedals go.  I have a Virtual Pilot
Pro and Pro Pedals (had them for years) and tried the pedals for a few days.
I really didn't like them for racing, even with the ball under the pedal.
The pedals were too far apart for me and the pivot angle felt awkward. I do
like them for flying, though. Probably if I spent more time in the air with
the Lotus  I'd like them better .....  and would have softer landings  ;)

Dan, I'd still say the LWFF...with different pedals if possible, although
not manditory. As someone previously mentioned, the CH Pedals have a long
throw, allowing minute adjustments of throttle and brake in GPL. I like the
CH pedals because they are large with cool little heel rests, my legs and
feet never get tired or cramp up, even in long races.

The wheel, out of the box, is the most precise I tested in it's price range,
but there are still a few small mods you can make to improve the feel. The
pot on mine worked loose and was moving very slightly in it's mount, a dab
of hot glue fixed that. There are two plastic stops which can be easily
removed to increase the rotation of the wheel a few degrees, and small
strips of mylar, like the plastic window from an envelope, can be used as
shim material between the steering shaft and the wheel itself to eliminate
any slop there. Finally, you want to make sure the nut holding the wheel is
torqued enough to prevent any excess movement there, but not too tight, you
don't want to crack the circuit board under the nut.

I used to have a TM wheel and spent as much time changing pots and bungees
as I did driving<g>, the LWFF has been trouble free for over 16 months of
daily use.

Act labs+shifter

Really worth it.

Well, perhaps I should clarify a little more.  What Force Feedback wheel would
be best for Grand Prix Legends?  I don't want to spend over $200, I'd really
prefer to spend less if possible.

Whichever one you're fastest with... :-)

Seriously, this is a personal-preference thing. I love the MS wheel;
some people hate it. Whatever, on no account buy one you haven't had a
proper test with, preferably with GPL.

I've had a lot of experience with the SC&T, and Microsoft wheels. I recently
tried out the Logitech and Guillemot (Ferrari). I bought the Guillemot as it
just feels a lot better than the others, forces are stronger, superb build
quality, and has a POV (v useful in GPL for looking around).
The pedals with the LWFF are so poor they put me off.

Dan,

I have a LWFF - and I think it was worth the money.
Not saying its the best - just that you won't feel you
wasted your money. The Microsoft or Guillemot
seem to offer better looking pedals and clamp
systems, but it all seems pretty closely matched
unless you spend the extra cash on the ACT labs
one. I did a poll on this group recently and the
MSFF and LWFF got equal votes.

The LWFF was easy to set up and the only trouble I've had
it that the plastic feet on the bottom of the steering
wheel unit seem to fall off too easy.

The original pedals never seem to bother me.
I guess if I was buying another, the slightly lower
price and better looking pedals of the Guillemot
may swing it.

Steve

Clarification - the Pro Pedals are different than the regular CH Pedals. The
Pro Pedals are much further apart than the regular CH Pedals.  The Pro Pedals
are intended to more accurately simulate airplane (aeroplane for you Brits)
rudder pedals, whereas the regular ones are a bit of a compromise (and more
suited for driving).

OK, could you guys link me to the Guillemot wheel and the CH pedals, as I would
like to get a look at them.  (Still contemplating what to buy...)  Thanks.
