GP2 : Direct Link on COM4 (one using Nocdrom)

by marc.. » Sat, 15 Feb 1997 04:00:00

        Hi,

I've just made a serial link connecting two computers. I use COM4 on
both computers, and under Win95 there is no problem (I use Direct
Cable Connection).

But, when I tried to play GP2 I couldn't connect. I tried only under
DOS, using the utility COMSETUP provided on the GP2  CD.
The COM4 address choosed on CMOS Setup is 02e8h, IRQ10 on both
machines (actually, it is a COM2 address for CMOS Setup, but the COM2
port acts as COM4). I have an internal modem (USR) on COM2, with a
different address (the modem address is  not  02e8h).

One of the computers is running GP2 using the utility Nocdrom. The
other is normal (with CD).

Does anybody know what's the problem ??
Any help will be welcome !!

Both pc's have to have EXACTLY the same gp2 files.

So if one has used a patch, a utility, or some other program with gp2,
the other pc must have them installed too.
Sometimes you even have to load each program/patch, etc in THE SAME ORDER
on both pc's to get them to work.

To my knowlegde, you can't run the comports in GP2 with anything else but
the DOS defauts, ie. IRQ4 and IRQ3.
Please correct me anybody who has done it.

Hello Brazil.

Sounds a little mixed up ;-)
The BIG BIG BIG link problem with a game like GP2 is, that you can't set
the IRQ. This means, that COM1 & 3, will work with IRQ4, and COM2 & 4 with
IRQ 3. And nothing else. COM2, and a modem connected to COM4 will not work
on most systems with the default IRQ because the IRQ lines will conflict.
Because I use GP2 both on modem and direct link, I decided to buy an
external modem, that way all problems are solved.
About the direct link.
Install the modem under Win95 on COM4, with an IRQ OTHER than 3. Then
configure your COM2 port to the default settings.
This will work (I hope ;-)

GP2 : Direct Link on COM4 (one using Nocdrom)

When I did the direct link between two computers for running GP2, I
used a parallel cable (null modem) which doesn't plug into any of the
com ports. And it works great! Diverte-te!
