GP2: COM4 unavailable

by Rob Hounsel » Sat, 17 Aug 1996 04:00:00

Folks,

   (posted for a friend...)

I'm having a problem accessing my modem on COM4 through the linkup
menu on GP2. I went through the control panels on Windows 95 to get the
address of COM4 and then used the COMSETUP command in the utilities
directory on the CD to set up COM4 at this address. However, when I
launch the game I still cannot access COM4. The radio button is always
ghosted out. We've also tried starting GP2 using the "nolinkmouse" (or
whatever the option is), but it still leaves the COM4 port unselectable.

A phonecall to Software Support, as well as an e-mail, has not been
replied to.

I thought I caught a glimpse of an (almost?) identical post on the
newsgroup a week or two ago but it disappeared on me. So my apologies
for any duplication but H-E-L-P !!.

Try disabling the com port in your CMOS setup. I had to do this in order
for the GP2 to even recognize my modem. I'm not a computer technician,
but this did the trick for me. :)

GP2: COM4 unavailable

Try NOT loading your mouse driver. This will free up an interrupt and probably
make the port available.
Also if you plan on using COM4 make sure you've got a COM3 aswell. Gaps
between COM ports are always sources for big IRQ problems.

Good luck.
