MOMO + F1 2001: no Force Feedback (long)

by Ice » Mon, 24 Dec 2001 09:17:09

I've installed F1 2001, patched it with version 1.0.2.4, updated that with
1.0.4.5, but there's still no force feedback on my MOMO wheel. In the f1
2001 menu, the wheel appears as Logitech MOMO Force USB (something like
that), but when I click on the controller icon below (to set the buttons,
pedals, etc), there is no force feedback setting to choose. I've downloaded
the advanced FF menu (http://www.racesimcentral.net/), but to no
avail. With this file, I get the force feedback icon (shaky joystick), but
when I click on it (or click on the arrow beside it), there's nothing there.
It's as if the game thinks my controller has no force feedback. Apart from
this, it works ok.

I've read in the 'advanced options.doc' that you can also edit the *.plr
file, with FF settings, but my *.plr file has no settings like that. I've
copied the controller settings from my *.plr below. I've tried setting

ForceFeedback=0

to

ForceFeedback=1

...but that didn't do anything.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need some other patch? I'm running XP Pro by the
way.

Cheers,

Ice D

The ff icon should be to the right of the joystick 1 and joystick2 icons.
Are you sure it's not there? Some people have not noticed it.

You need to patch it to version 1.074 - this is the patch released by
EA/ISI, and is the only patch which supports FF.  Get it here:

That's the one, thanks. Force Feedback works, it feels quite good. I have it
set to minus 50% right now, I'll probably do some more tweaking. I like the
way the MOMO wheel starts shaking when you pull your hands off on a fast
straight... you really shoudn't do that in a F1 car   :)

No prob, Ice.  BTW, the FF effects are fully customizable throught the .plr
player file.  If you have some time, check out these threads on the High
Gear forums:

P.s.: Also, make sure you have the latest 4.11c Logi drivers from the
website (www.wingmanteam.com).  The ones that come with the wheel have a bug
that doesn't properly center the wheel...

I'm using those 'Garisson'  settings now. I just changed his positive FF
level to negative level (-65), which felt better to me. It's very good, the
steering is pretty heavy, but quite stable. It really feels like you're
driving a very powerful car. Along with the nice graphics, this makes for an
excellent game! I guess I'll take back some negative things I've said about
this game before.. :)

Merry X-mas,

Ice D
