I was wondering if anyone knows how to connect two comps. using the direct
connect feature. I have tried to do this but it sits forever. If anyone
could help please let me know.

Make sure you have the IPX protocol installed. You can check (and add if
necc) under Control Panel/Network.

Screw32 was asking about the "Direct Connect" feature, not "Network".
Screw32, buddy. If you don't have ethernet cards the "Direct Connect"
mode will have to suffice. Make sure the COMx ports being used
are set to the same speed. I'll suggest:
9600 Baud
N No Parity
8 Eight Data Bits
1 One Stop Bit.
You also require a Null-modem cable to connect the PC's together.
If you try and use a regular modem/serial cable it will not work. You can
buy a null-modem cable at your friendly neighborhood computer store.
Make sure to get the proper ends:
DB9 - Has 9 pins and is usually COM1
DB25 - Has 25 pins and is usually COM2 or more.
Have fun,
Jason.

If you want to play games that don't support Direct Play using the Direct
Connection supplied with Win9x (which is what he seems to be trying to do)
you need to have IPX installed. All games that support IPX/Network play
will then work as if you had a genuine networking setup.
If he is asking about using in game supplied direct connect features then
yes you are correct. Using the above however is much easier and more
convenient IMO.

Yeah I tried to do all that everyone has said. I put the baud rate the same
the com ports the same and the stop bits. But it just seems to sit there
and not do anything. Should both comps. have the Nascar2 disk in? I know
that if you are answering you have to have it in, but if you are dialing you
dont.
Thanks for all your help.

Umm. You only need one CD in the host computer.
Be sure you have a Null-modem cable. You can try 'talking' over the serial
port with some communication software to verify it works.
I know when playing via the serial port on my faster PC's P166/P2
(Indycar2 only allows serial head-to-head play :( ), If it doesn't connect
the first time I have to re-boot the PC.
Your best bet to try the communication software like Procomm Plus for DOS
to verify the cabling and serial ports are working.
