I also get this problem sometimes, normally when coming up to a
particulary difficult part of the tack like the chicane at
Monaco or Flag Platz:(

I'm finding that after a few laps, maybe as many as eight or ten, my
hard drive starts spinning a lot, and the framerate gets irregular
(choppy, then smooth, then choppy).

I'm wondering if it's the replay writing to the disk...

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Andrew

Don't know, but, you can adjust the amount of memory used for replays
in your core.ini, so you might want to play with it and see.

Add these lines to the end of your core.ini file

[ Replay ]
replayMemoryOverride = 16000

depending how much memory you have you could try 16000 or 32000 or
64000.

It's a pretty useless utility that comes with M$ Office products.
Basically catalogues all the files on your system at regular intervals.
And the symptoms it causes sure sound like what you're going thru.

Remove it from the autostart folder in your start up menu.
If you got office you can also remove the Office shortcut in your startup
menu, it launches osa9.exe which is just a program used to launch the
office componenets (word, excel...) completely useless and need 1meg memory

odds are it is some task in the background ... shutdown _all_ programs
before you start GPL.
if you are short on ram, windows might start swapping at that time. in
that case, try to set the swapfile to a minimum size of at least double
your physical ram. if you have just 64MB (or maybe even less!), buy
another 64MB.

I can't seem to find either the "autostart" folder *or* "fast find"...

BTW, I don't have Microsoft Office (at least I don't think I do) but I do have
Microsoft Works, which came with the computer.

Any suggestions?

thx

Try increasing the size of your swap file in windows.  I had the same
problem and wrecked out of many online races because the screen would stop
moving when the HD came on.. The swap file size increase fixed it.

Actually, my name is Brian<G> I just didnt setup a proper profile on this
computer...

Ok, swap file size.

Locate the My Computer icon on your desktop
Right click on it.
Click on the Tab that says "Performance"
Then click on the "Virtual Memory" button
Next, make sure you've chosen "let me specify my own virtual memory
settings"
Then select a drive that you want your .swp (swap) file to be on.
Then select a maximum .swp file size (generally you want to make the swap
file size 2x your physical memory size, so if you are like me and have
128mb, your swap file size would be 256mb.

If that doesnt work for you you can always go back and let windows manage
the virtual memory for you..

Hope this helps
