F1RS - Voodoo 2, HELP!!!

by Laurence Lindstro » Sun, 12 Jul 1998 04:00:00

Hi Folks:

I've been racing F1RS since December.  So I think I've been
there and done that.  I need to run config, but the "Choose
Command" to set up the throttle/brake and shift up/down won't
let me set them.

   I just added a Quantum3D Obsidian 2 X-24.  Should be pretty
hot.

I removed and replaced F1RS because it couldn't find a
3DFX card, no big deal.  I patched it to 1.09.  Then I started
it and ran config.

Of course, the brake/throttle are bound to buttons, and
the shift up/down are axis by default.  I'd like to talk to
the idiot who came up with that.

This is no big deal, we just click on one of the controls,
the "Choose Command" button lights up, we assign a temporary
key, and shift the functions around to where they need to be.

The problem is that the "Choose Command" light goes on for
a short fraction of a second and blinks out. I can't assign a
key, or anything else, to the functions.

I've calibrated my ECCI, I've replaced it with my T1 and
calibrated, same problem.

When I remove the analog inputs at the control panel, the
problem goes away.  I go into config, I can click on one of
the control buttons and the "CHOOSE COMMAND" light goes on,
and stays on till I choose a key.

Like I said, I'm one of the F1RS veterans.  I know what
to do.  However, that doesn't mean I can't be stupid.  Am
I missing something?

   I'm going to***with this until 6:00 PDT U.S.  Then
I'll pull the Quantum and replace it with the Pure3D.  I'll
reload the old system state from tape and I should be ready
for my buddies.  These guys are Aces of the Pacific/Europe
fanatics who HATED every racing sim I've had, they LOVE F1RS.

I did start a race, and stepped into a different car.
The Obsidian ran, it seemed pretty fast on my old PPro.  I
hope I can get a report on to to you.

                                                     Thanks
                                                     Larry

It appears to be a big deal if you are having these problems :-)
Not finding the 3dfx card (is the obsidian a 3dfx card?)
as you may know could be from Glide.dll not being in the
Windows system directory.

Perhaps this has to do with your video drivers?

F1RS - Voodoo 2, HELP!!!

< Installed Quantum 3D single card SLI - bla bla bla ... snip >

What I mean is that I consider removing and replacing F1RS
part of standard maintenance.   Things stop working with that
sim, remove-replace-patch, it's fixed.  Had to do it again
last night to get the sound working.  So I wasn't surprised
that I had to do it after replacing the video card.

I looked at the Quantum3D's downloads, same version numbers as
I have.

I gave up, reloaded WIN95, sims and Pure3D drivers from tape,
raced with the Pure3D, had fun.

So Greg, the video drivers are suspect.  I have to get
a new hard drive this afternoon, aren't they supposed to last
more than a week?  I guess I'll reload the Quantum config from
tape while I'm shopping, and see what other sims can do with
this card.

Any other suggestions?  The Choose command works fine if
it thinks I'm driving with a keyboard.  It's fine with my
Pure3D, latest drivers.

Has anybody tried the Obsidian2 with F1RS?

Has anybody tried any Voodoo 2 SLI configuration with
F1RS?  I know F1RS won't exploit SLI, but is it compatible?

                                                   Thanks
                                                   Larry

I had a similar problem with a Diamond Monster 3d  II 8meg.  What I did is
to execute F1RS with the DirectX drivers for the 3dfx card (the normal F1RS
version) and in there I configured the controller.  After I exited and
launched the Glide version and had no problem anymore :-)

Hopefully that's the problem
