F1rs can′t find my Voodoo

by Magnus S?nnergre » Fri, 13 Feb 1998 04:00:00

Hi there !
After reading a lot about how much better ther F1rs is with an 3dfx card I
last night finally installed my new Stingray 128/3D with an Voddoo rush chip
on.
To my dissapointment after complitely removal of F1rs and reinstalling it ,
I get the message that I don not have an Voddoo card so it will install the
Dirett 3D version.I also reinstalled Win 95 but it still couldnt find it. I
tried some other 3DFX games which worked perfect.

Please help

Make sure that you have Glide.dll in your system folder.

Yes this is a weird feature of F1RS. The latest version of Glide is 2.43
which uses Glide2.Dll. However F1RS uses Glide 2.43 but looks for
Glide.Dll which is a very early version of Glide. I think one of UBIsofts
european web sites should have a copy of Glide.Dll with instructions
explaining this.

F1rs can′t find my Voodoo

Hi there

I had the same problem.  It seems that f1rs looks for two .dlls which if
you have upgraded your vodoo rush drivers get deleted.  If you want the two
missing .dlls drop me a line and I will mail them to you.

All the best

I'm not 100% sure but I think F1RS looks for a file called SST1INIT.DLL,
just like e.g. 3Dfx POD demo does. SST1INIT.DLL doesn't come with
the latest Glide but you can get it from the latest M3D drivers package.
Copying that file into windows\system folder solved my 3Dfx recognition
problems for both F1RS and POD demo.

Well I am 100% sure it looks for Glide.Dll as I origionally stated.
I believe I read that in their FAQ or something.

You're 100% sure but don't know where you picked it up?!?!?
I did some testing and now I'm 100% sure that F1RS looks for sst1init.dll
rather than glide.dll.

You really shoud check your facts before posting something as 100%
sure ... furthermore, there's no such thing as glide2.dll ...

>You're 100% sure but don't know where you picked it up?!?!?

It was from a post to this NG around Xmas time. Then someone from
UBIsoft (Stella) send me email containing a Word Document which
is a rehash of that post.

That document said that if your 3dfx card is not being reccognized it is
because you are using new Orchid or 3dfx reference drivers. And you need
to put glide.dll and sst1init.dll back into your system directory.

Listen here fool, the facts were checked. You make it sound like life &
death or something. The flie is glide2x.dll. And when you install the latest
reference drivers, glide.dll and sst1init.dll apparently get removed. Wow
that is *WAY* different than glide2.dll. Lamer.

Don't know how you can be so sure.

Here's a simple test. Leave SST1INIT.DLL where it is & remove glide.dll -
try & install F1rs & it fails to recognise you have a voodoo card & only
allows D3D. It is clear that F1rs does indeed look for glide.dll as a way of
recognising the presence of a voodoo card.

This was well documented after the release of Orchid's 3.0 drivers whose
install routine removed glide.dll and failed to replace it (they have since
released a modified set with the error corrected).

However, if you remove SST1INIT.DLL and leave GLIDE.DLL , F1rs still
fails to recognise my Voodoo card ... So is it safe to say that F1rs looks
for both files ... ?

It appears that it looks for one or the other or for both, depending on
the exact circumstances. When I had the problem when I messed around with
my Orchid's drivers it was definitely glide.dll that was the culprit (I
hadn't even realised that sst1init.dll was anything to do with glide at
the time <g>). I suggested that solution to a friend who had a similar
problem but adding glide.dll didn't work for him. He contacted Ubisoft
who suggested sst1init.dll as well.

Cheers,
Richard

Correct. At least that is according to the UBIsoft post here to the NG. I
can
email you the Word document if you want.
