gpl stuttering

Apologies - I had previously posted this and it got lost under another
subject.....

Can anyone help me sort out the stuttering within GPL - specifically when
I'm racing at the Kyalami course.

Depite turning off practically all the video options and sound, racing only
5 drivers, turning down the resolution to 800x600 and trying both D3D and
OpenGL the race is ruined by the sudden breaks in play. This isn't happening
on the other courses, so why is Kyalami different?

BTW the PC has XP, a Geforce3 (64Mb), a P4 2Ghz and 512 Mb Ram so I would
have thought the game would have no issues at all. Have up to date
video and SB audio drivers (which cleared up sound issues) and all relevant
GPL patches.

Any help or input would be appreciated

Don't know why it would be just Kyalami. Have you installed the cpu patch?
if not you need to with your 2ghz cpu. Have you got other programs running
in the background? if so try to turn some of them off. I have a amd 1600 xp
and had the same problem when i was running Win XP and eventually went back
to Win 98se, a much better os for *** than XP imo.
Sid.

Yes, I have the cpu patch and all the others from papy.com

The problem always occurs when racing against the AI cars, when they're
around the stuttering starts. (Even with as few as 5 cars!!) The problem
does occur on the other courses, but it is most severe at Kyalami making the
control more difficult than it needs to be. When on practice runs, the game
runs perfectly and always at the 36fps, it's only when that I race I have
the problems...

I did tend to blame WinXP, but presumed that the hardware should have
overcome any lag that might be inherent in the OS, so looked at alternatives
like hardware drivers. But having updated all of these, the stuttering still
remains.

Any other ideas??

It is not XP. I have a XP and a geforce 3 and GPL runs great! Have you tried
the latest nvidia drivers? Also are you using any video overclocking
utilities. Sometimes they can cause problems too.

Are you using MS FF wheel with usb connector ? Try disabling force feedback
from core.ini. Stuttering should stop but it's not as much fun driving without
force feedback.
