You heer so much about some Nascar drivers playing Nascar Racing and its
derivatives on their computers.  Has anyone ever heard of any of the F1
drivers palying GPL?

Villeneuve practiced a few circuits on Grand Prix II before he actually
started racing F1. Barichello "learned" the braking zones for Suzuka the
same way a few years back.

GPL? I don't know.

Jack Brabham and Dan Gurney regularly get together for a spot of
modem-to-modem competition from the comfort off their respective nursing
homes.

The first year Jacques Villeneuve spent in F1 he said he used a F1 sim
to learn the tracks, I don't recall which one, but it must have been
fairly current.

To be more precise, he used GP2 to learn Spa.

from the london times:

... when he arrived at the post-qualifying press conference, the
personification of grunge with his shoelaces dragging on the ground
and wearing a T-shirt covered by a denim shirt open to the waist, he
admitted sheepishly that his ability to outqualify Hill for the first
time since the opening race of the season in Melbourne owed much to
playing on a computer video game, the GP2, that recreates the contours
and curves of every grand prix circuit.

"It is going to sound childish and stupid," he said, "but I checked
out the new video game and the tracks are fairly close to the real
thing. It gives you a good idea of where you should be going. You know
that after the start-finish line you are going to get to a hairpin and
then you are going to be at Eau Rouge. I didn't get pole on the video
game, though.  I was 18th."

Dunno about GPL but on the 1996 F1 review video there is a shot of
Barrichello playing what I think is ICR2...

I just returned from the CART race in Toronto.  One of the drivers at
the autograph session was Dario Franchitti (very cool since he won).
On the back of the pictures he had for signing it says that GPL is
his favorite video game.  So, there is at least one CART (and
hopefully someday F1) driver who plays GPL.

Unfortunately, I couldn't ask him about it, since the process is an
assembly line and I didn't get a chance to look at the card until I
was done with the whole exercise.

One might assume that Paul Tracy has at least tried it.  In a piece
in the program about teammate relationships, both of them
diplomatically said that they get along well off the track, and Dario
said that they often play PlayStation games in Paul's motorhome
all night.  Dario probably doesn't lug the computer around with him,
but maybe Paul's tried it at home or something.  It seems fitting
somehow that Tracy's more of a PlayStation guy.

Problem:

People post posts about races and post results inadvertantly or purposely
because they wish to express something about said race.  This is a problem
if you are still watching it.

Solution:

Pretty easy if you ask me. DO NOT READ THE NEWSGROUP UNTIL AFTER YOU FINISH
WATCHING THE RACE. :) (sorry about the caps)

Of course, it may not be above for everyone (or anyone);
it doesn't show up in the same thread on my reader (Free
Agent).

THE TOPIC THAT CONTAINS THE SPOILER IS:
"GPL and Formula One Drivers"

Yeah, but to side with Emiliano, whose race I dimished in value
(though I don't think it was ruined completely), RAS oughta
be a pretty safe group.  RASI, the sports page, ESPN, espn2,
and maybe even CNN are certainly to be avoided.

BTW, if anyone is wondering where the offending message
is, I cancelled it and posted a sanitized version.
