Hey Richard, there's a lot of techy guys here: www.SimBin.com including the
guy who wrote the telemetry program. Come to the forums and post the
question.
See you soon

Guys,

After hearing about the patch, I went out and bought F1 2001, and I must
say, I'm impressed.

I have a few questions, though...

I have a duron 750, GF2 mx, MSFF (gameport), and win98. I have copied the
settings from the document into the .plr file, and the FF is very good. Are
there any tweaked settings around for the MSFF that I can try?

To get the wheel to work, I have to go to the track (where it won't work)
then exit out, and re-load it before it works. Is there any way around this?

Also, I have a huge deadzone on the pedals, despite using DXtweak, or
DXdeadzone. DXTweak doesn't seem to work properly, either. Any pointers
here?

How do you get the telemetry to work?

Does each car drive differently? I'm ***at setups, so do I need to get
ones specifically for the car of my choice?

Thanks.

R.

Forgot to add, you'll get all the setups you ever need, and can request a
specific setup for your driving style and we'll make it for you :-)

Using DXtweak, you have to set the center of calibration very near
to the minimum calibration value.  Then you can use the entire
travel of your pedals.

F1 2001 keys off of the center of calibration for the starting
point of pedal input, even if you are using split axis.

I seriously hope ISI patches this game so that split-axis controllers
work right.  I have an MS Non-FF wheel and no matter what I do with
the calibration data in dxtweak the only way to eliminate the deadzone
is by using combined pedals.  It's either that or having to press each
pedal halfway down to get any input.  With the number of *arcade*
games on the market that properly support split-axis pedals I can't
believe they somehow missed that.  Just a little toggle or a tweak in
an ini file so that the game reads the pedals correctly would be nice.

At least now I know why I thought the throttle/brake models in the
game sucked.  Using single-axis pedals I'm spinning at every corner
and coming to a near complete stop before I enter a corner. =)

Yeah, I was really disappointed that they didn't fix this in the first
patch. Hell, right now F1 2001 is the only reason I still have WinME
on my computer. XP is working fine on every other game, including
GPL. It's just that my gameport MS FF has split axis all the
time. After the big upgrade there is no money for a new MOMO wheel
either :)

That's exactly what I said to do in the first place!  Guess
I didn't explain it clearly enough, eh?

It works for me, and I think it HAS to work for everyone,
because F1 2001 is reading DX8 calibration values, and
DXtweak changes those values directly.

So, if you think it doesn't work for you, try again, because
is *will* work.
