Sound Card Recomendations?

by Jay » Sat, 18 Dec 1999 04:00:00

Hi, I've been considering a sound upgrade for my system for Christmas,
but am a bit unsure which card to get.

I play mostly racing sim's although once in a while a pinball game, or
Tomb Raider.

I've got some older titles like GP2 which I believe will require a
sound card that can run under DOS, or can emulate common older sound
cards like the Soundblaster 16/32 series.

I currently have a Soundblaster AWE32 ISA (I believe) that I got back
in late 1995, and a pair of Sony speakers that are actually quite good.
At the time they were one of the best set on the market (again in late
1995)

So considering this, what might you recommend, to let me play my
current games, and be able to handle the games of the future, without
breaking the bank!

I've also been considering a set of Cambridge Four-Point speakers,
which go for like $100 or so, but would like to still be able to keep
my old Sony's (if I can?)

Thanks for the advice!!!

Guillemot in selling the fortissimo, 4 outputs, good quality for games, of
course not good enough if you want to compose and use midi stuff but for us
game idiots it's well enough.

Price is france is FRF 390 which should be about USD 65.00, then you can
keep you 2 sony's and buy 2 extra speakers, altec lansing are quite good,
don't get the most expensive ones...or better, buy a real good headset (AKG
closed type) and FEEL that ferrari 1967 V-12...
