Hi David :-)
I would suggest a either a geforce 3 or a geforce 3 ti200. The ti 200 is
usually $179-$199. I would have gotten one of those but instead I got the
regular Gainward geforce 3. It is only $229 at www.newegg.com People will
tell you that the ti 200 will overclock to the levels of the regular geforce
3 but mine is already that speed and overclocks sto the levels of the
geforce 3 ti 500. At that price I think it is the best value. I have an
athlon xp 1700+ running at 140fsb. In quake at 1600x1200 on high I get
116.7fps not bad. Of course gpl is 1600x1200 all the time. I currently have
my card clocked at 215/520. The regular speed is 200/468. I have had it all
the way up to 240/540 with no problems. I just dont see the point at runnig
at that speed with the framerates I am getting in the games I play right
now.

Sorry david I put that long post and realized that you need a card for a
laptop. Doh! Can you put a geforce 2 go in it?

So I take it that you are happy with the Gainward card then? I just ordered
a Gainward GF3 golden sample card from newegg.com myself. The golden sample
is clocked at 220/480 out of the box so its right between the GF3 and ti500,
and as you have pointed out it should overclock well. Also like you I don't
see a need for overclocking right now either.

Most laptops have built-in graphics cards and can't be upgraded except in the rare
case that you might be able to add video memory.  The only possibility might be with a
doscking station that has space for some regular PCI type cards.

I've never owned a laptop, but I believe the video is hardwired into the
motherboard and there is no way to upgrade to another graphics card because
there is no PCI or AGP slot available.
