F1CS2K -- Please Help! -- TSW and Split Axis

Help!  F1 Championship Season 2000 is having fits with my TSW split axis
controller.  Here's what's happening:

1)  Windows sees the brake axis as some sort of extension of the X-axis and
doesn't number it.  Thus, my brake axis never shows up to be available for
calibration.

2)  I can get the brake axis to be recognized if I hold the pedals down as the
game is opening, then go assign them in the controller menu.

3)  The throttle axis (and the brake axis when I can get it to work) only have
effect for 1/2 of their travel.  F1CS2K sees them as either the +1/2 or the -1/2
of the axis.  No brake or throttle occurs until I've pressed the pedals 1/2 of
the way down.  The TSW calibrates with the first motion beginning 1/2 of the way
through the travel.

Is there any way to make this work?  I'm disgusted that in this day and age a
game can't use DX controllers properly.

The only way My TSW2Mod works in split axis for F1 CS is to press the brake
pedal down when I start the game. I have to keep it pressed each time, all
the way until I leave the pits.
