No Lap Times On-line GPL?

by kcaldwel » Sat, 07 Nov 1998 04:00:00

Just wondering if anybody else has experienced this, or may know a
solution. We have been running on-line races for our GPL league, and
sometimes we have a problem where one person will not be able to get lap
times during practice. It doesn't seem to be consistently the same
person or anything. It seems t o be a different problem than not showing
up on the entry list, which has also happening. Backing out and
re-starting GPL seems to fix that.

Last night I couldn't register lap times at a session at Monza, with
about 10 people on-line. It had worked fine for the practice and race
immediately before. I backed out and re-connected to the server several
times, and even backed out and re-started GPL entirely. We were going
through the passworded VROC room, so I tried connecting directly to the
IP address - same thing. One thing I did notice was that two of us had
the same car number (#11 to be precise). I seemed to get #11 even when I
backed out and re-logged in, despite it already being in use.

Any ideas would be appreciated, since this will be a problem at our
league races. I hate starting at the back!

No Lap Times On-line GPL?

I have had this happen once in my limited exploration of on-line play
(about 10 races this week).  Don't have a solution.

Only solution was for the host to restart the session, at least in my
experience.

No Lap Times On-line GPL?

Happened a few weeks back to me at Mexcio. It just wouldn't recognize me as
being on the track. Did about 10 laps, each time hoping that the next would
show up on the lap-board. In the end, I decided to log-off then come back on
again. No luck!... Decided to RE-BOOT, and log back on. NO LUCK!...

Think the problem must have been with the server host (it was max-ed out w.
20 players). Guess the only solution was for HIM to reset. Instead, I found
another race to join and played happily there... then came back a few hours
later to the original server (he had reset by this time), and everything was
fine.

No Lap Times On-line GPL?

I think this problem is caused when someone drops out and rejoins, if you
check the entry list by clicking on the lap times sheet, you will find the
person not receiving lap times has the same entry numbers as someone else.
We noticed this on an eight person lan, where people were going in and out
of the game during practice to swap cars, setups etc.
Hope this helps

No Lap Times On-line GPL?

Thanks everyone. I think it may also have something to do with not
re-starting GPL for a new race. We've been just going out to the race
setting window, and starting a new one with everyone connected. It sometimes
works, but it seems to introduce some oddities too.

Thanks again. Maybe something that could use a SW tweak.
