GPL: ON-Line leagues accepting entry's!!

by Edwin Solhei » Wed, 14 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Hi guys...

The Paddock is proud to announce the formation of 4 GPL On-line
championships, split into 3 different leagues. I hope we can get several
cable-modem racers to sign-up. Is they do, then we are looking at 3 leagues
with a total of maximum 60 (!!) drivers.. (i.e 3 x 20)

So if you're interested in participating in a European-American league....
please take a few minutes and read the information found at "The Paddock - a
legendary site..."

The address is: http://www.racesimcentral.net/

All the best,

When are the league races going to begin? The guys with the warez versions
have at least a month's worth of practice over the people who were just able
to buy the game in the past week or so.

David heh?

It seems (well it is for me) that we are racing for our own personnal
satisfaction. Oh and sorry probably for those who won't receive GPL before
weeks ? Even more those who can't order via Internet and are stuck to wait
months for it in isolated places of the world. Where do we stop here ? Where
to we make the line between the black and white ? It seems everything is
gray for you.

Aren't you George Ojeda or Don Wilshe under a fake name (hehe T.g.s.n.
inside joke).

Anti-racing? I loooove online racing. You're reading too much into my post.
I think what Edwin's doing is fantastic. A lot of work too. All I'm
interested in is if the league starts in two weeks, or maybe two months. One
detail. Do you know? Makes a big difference (both in fun and
competitiveness) to someone who just got hold of the game while many others
have had a copy of it for at least a month (or more) already.

"Anti-racing" couldn't be farther from the truth. I doubt there's anyone on
r.a.s who enjoys online racing more than me. I started racing online with
POD over a year ago, then CPR, and finally MTM2. The only other sim that I
know of that had online play was N2. Between the three games, I'm sure I've
had over 1,000 online races and multiplay is as important a feature in a sim
to me as any. I get very annoyed at some sim developers that view it as just
an option and I've stated that here many times.

It sounds like your hinting that I might be a bit of a wus when it comes to
online racing.  :-)  In three of the four sims to have online racing, I've
done pretty well competitively. With POD, I qualified for, and finished
highly in the POD $10,000 Tournament in the summer of '97. In CPR, I held
the #1 spot at Case's Ladder.  In August, I finished 5th in the MTM2 Vegas
Challenge. Can't wait to try out MGP multiplay too. I've raced the best of
the best in each of those driving games and done very well so a wus I 'aint.
Some of the same people from those sims are driving in GPL. Online racing is
all about fun for me whether I'm racing beginners or pros. I really don't
care how good or bad someone is. As long as they are friendly, I'm more than
willing to race with anyone. Even guys like you who go 'round and 'round in
circles.  Sorry, but you deserved that.  :-)

was really late hehe).

What are you waiting for the NROS ? You will obviously find the most
hard-core and serious SimRacers there.. in such leagues as HAL, HGNS and
Oscar FC... It's not for nothing it has over 1000 active drivers per week
and 7000 entries.

Cool bio btw...

I was more targeting on the point you wrote like really often since 2months
about the people who got GPL Warezed and have an advantage over others. It
seems we should all stop the racing until everybody is in a fair position
via the others. It's all gray stuff for me... Everybody can have an
advantage. Getting GPL in Warez before the release, being lucky to get it
before others places in the world, beta testers, spending more time on it,
experience, setup knowledge, better wheel, better PC, etc...

It would be all unfair advantages over the common driver.... if you
understand what Im talking about (can,t use the real words I want to say).
Not participating in an online league just because some people have an
unfair advantage is really not a good thing to think IMHO.  I mean... We are
all sportsman, and race for our personnal satisfaction. If you think
somebody is a cheater or had an unfair advantage over everybody, just ignore
him ;-)

I understand now what you were trying to say.  I was a little unsure
from your first post. I was just wondering if people who only got the game
after it's retail release would have time to catch up with the others and be
able to compete. Nothing more really.

I'm sure NROS is very good. The problem is I already have to struggle to
find sim time. Not enough hours in the day. I'll definitely try N3, but for
the upcoming  months I'll
probably stick with the new sims like MGP (coming any day) and GPL, along
with some occasional time with my older favorites.
