GPL - Black Flag on-line bug?

by Vitzthu » Sun, 25 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Have many others had this problem?

I was racing with just one other guy the other day and he was acting as
a server in the UK (I am in Canada).  Ping times were decent but, more
importantly, the connection was solid and during about an hour of play I
only disconnected once.

Just the two of us were racing at Mexico.  The first time I was faster
than he into the first corner and subsequent chicane and I nudged him in
error; the sent me off into the grass on the left just before the
tyres... I subsequently cut the course a little to avoid having to drive
over the tyres to get back on.  Next lap I got a black flag for cutting
the course - understandable but I wasn't that thrilled seeing as how I
had spun off.

We restarted the race.  Every subsequent start (and there were four or
five of them) I would get a black flag for cutting the course even when
I was taking very good lines.  A bit frustrating, but I left it at that
and logged off.

Last night I was racing with two chaps at Silverstone and one of them
kept getting black flagged; I mentioned my Mexico experience and he said
that he had had the same thing happen there, too.

Anyone else had this problem?  Does the server have to shut down GPL or
just restart a session to avoid the incorrectly recurring black flag?

Cheers,
Gian Vitzthum.

Yeah, I was racing against you Andy, in both Mexico and Silverstone. In
Mexico I was eventually DQed for being black flagged every lap, and it
was you who was flagged in Silverstone, but I couldn't see what for.

Did you guys actually try to answer the black flag and stop in the pits,
or did you just keep on driving?

I seem to recall Alison Hine explaining that if the frame rate drops below
30 while online, that a black may occur...Switch off a few details to bring
the frames up, and see if it continues.

Cheers!

Marc

Mexico is "Black Flag Heaven".  I haven't seen what you describe, but
I've been black flagged for minutes at a time...the "wait" sign just
won't go away even though I'm properly pitted.  This has happened
twice to me...only at Mexico.

I stopped in Mexico, but the b/flag came up again next lap.
