got black flags that they shouldn't have.
I gather that warps can reposition the car and make the server think
that the car has taken a short cut so that is why the flag is issued;
Silverstone and Mexico are particulary prone to this... Mexico not only
because of warps but if one loses it through the tires on T2L it is
difficult to re-enter exactly where one left the track because of the
tire barrier. At Silverstone the final right hand bend has some room to
the right that serves as a pit entrance and I believe that running on
this brick (or whatever the road construction) is considered a short
cut. Seeing as how the racing line is just inches away from this brick
it is easy to imagine how a warp might appear to the server as an
infringement.
I propose that on-line servers should delete the "cut course" sections
for these two tracks and any other tracks that may seem problematic.
This is done easily enough in appropriate track.ini files -- you will
note that some tracks do not have cut course specifications at all and a
comment line is added that they are not needed for the particular track
in question.
The possible disadvantage of letting a cheater gain a tenth of a second
is far outweighed by the resolution of improper black flags to honest
drivers that are forced to give up race positions needlessly; likewise a
careless spin that wasn't intended as a cheat isn't penalised by a
vicious black flag.
Those of you that play on my server shouldn't get improper black flags
any more!
Cheers,
Gian Vitzthum.
