Bitorrent hasn't really caught on yet here in Race Sim Land. IT does
make sense for dialuppers when these huge mods are released. But beyond
the BT debate, it shows how were are at the mercy of the vagaries of the
internet.
Almost every week I've run into lost links due to Race Sim Central's
hacking a couple of months ago. I'm still trying get get a fully debugged
copy of the 67 version of Sebring and we end up with roadblock after
roadblock.
A central depository for mods is a good thing, but the chance for loosing
files, and mods etc are magnified when you group them all together.
For the 3rd time today I'm gonna make the same suggestion.(the first two
were elsewhere on forums, not RAS). We should be using
alt.binaries.simulators.autos.
Perhaps somebody could write an automated robot uploaded that would
resend all the mods and carsets and tracks and utilities at predetermined
times. This would keep everything current, give it a safe place, take the
load off of websites AND discourage software thieves from using OUR
newsgroup.
I'll try and put up all my Mclaren Stuff there Mitch.

Mitch
you might try a different newsgroup reader. I use Xnews and was able to
dload the 4th part...the smallest...with no troubles.
There are other newsgroup dloaders that work well also, but the names
escape me. Hopefully somebody else can chime in.

Thanks

On a side note Xnews is great!
Thanks again Mr. Henrie

The problem with BitTorrent is that anything you download is automatically
shared. It isn't like KaZaa, where you can disable sharing and download all
you want. Our position is that we don't penalize people who download, but we
penalize those who share and get caught. Since BT shares all the time, and
it's so popular, I want it to die a slow painful death and burn in hell... :-(

I understand it *perfectly*, and no it isn't the same. If you download from a
server, you're not automatically sharing out to the world. With BitTorrent,
you do. That means that the agents of music and movie copyright holders can
and do discover people with infringing material on their systems. I get e-mail
every day reporting copyright infringement, and I have to deal with the
situation all the time. THAT is why I hate BitTorrent.

Ya See Damien, Eldred is a University Admin type guy. He's responsible
for all the systems online at some ***y tiny podunk college in Michigan.
It may even have been the one that NARROWLY avoided defeat at the hands of
the WSU Cougars in the Rose Bowl a few years back. But I digress...
One man's savior is an Admin's worst nightmare.

Im still trying to get Mclaren mod for F1C. It's been days now when it
couldve taken minutes using Bitorrent. But using your logic, kill the
messenger ;)
