and freeze frames. This happens a lot when there are lots of cars on the
track. Upgraded from SB live which worked fine (then why the F**K did you
upgrade). Any ideas on getting this running?

Have you checked for interrupt or other ressource conflicts? The A2 worked
fine with GPL here under WinME - just to tell you there's not an inherent
problem between the two.

Back in the good ol days of DOS, somebody told me to put the sound card
and video card as far apart as possible. I've pretty much stuck to that
ever since. As Steve said, you don't want the two biggest hogs of your PCI
bus fighting each other for access.
dh
Dave: Usually the "higher" (closer to the AGP slot) the slot, the lower the
IRQ, which is good. Back in the day, adjacent slots shared an IRQ.
Nowadays, tho, the shared IRQs may be several slots apart. Your mobo docu
will usually show you which. If you've lost the docu, you can do it
empirically, by moving the card around and doing a partial boot (up to--but
not including--the dreaded msg. "Starting Windows"). One of the boot
screens (it helps to disable the Windoze logo in msdos.sys) will show a list
of PCI devices and which IRQs they're using. Worst case: into the BIOS and
manually assign IRQs (not for the faint of heart).

If you are going to continue to run Win98SE.....go back to your SB Live
card. In fact, in racing sims, the A2 card offers no improvement...maybe
even less quality sound (considering all the driver problems in Win98SE).
If you are an audiophile, do lot of music recording and so forth, then the
A2 makes sense. If not, stick with the SB Live (or SB 5.1 X-gamer) versions
or go to another sound card company with similar products. Creative is
essentially abandoning the Win98SE platform.
By the way, Achim's A2 works in WinMe, because WinMe can (but no guarantee)
work with the WDM drivers - maybe. But, it still works best with the VXD
drivers...he's just lucky his sound card is working....and I doubt he's
installed the updated patch from Creative...because there are no reports of
the A2 working in WinMe with those drivers installed!
Beware, dump Win98SE....or dump Creative....there are no other choices in
the matter.
Tom
hmmm dump a company that has no respect for resource sharing or dump a
company that has no respect for sharing. Tough choice.

Hi Tom,
two minor correction:
- it worked with the VxD drivers off the A2's install CD as well, with one
little glitch in that when shifting, sometimes the screen seemed to stop
for a millisecond, as the shift sound was loaded or played. The effect
only occurred during upshifts, and luckily was sufficiently minor to not
affect the driving.
- and, right now I'm using the auto-updated drivers from Creative, which
are WDM, and that little glitch has gone away. I.e., the WDM drivers
actually work better for me.
IMHO, btw, the A2 sounds better than the SB's, but only is interesting for
racing sims if these use the A2's advanced effects. GPL does not.
N2003 under WinME works well with the A2, and even moderately uses some of
the A2's advanced effects. But I can't compare the A2 to an SB in N2003,
so I don't know how big the difference is.
