> Yep, bad choice, sorry to say. Get a voodoo3 pci. Either 2000 or
3000.
voodoo3 2000 is fine for GPL. Firstly reviews indicate that it can be
overclocked almost as far as the 3000 + in any case on GPL I see no
performance increase between standard 143MHz and the 3k clock of 166MHz.
another option if you want to save a few $'s is the STB Velocity 100.
This is the same as the V3 except (i) it has only 8MB of memory and (ii)
the drivers only enable one of the V3 graphics engines .... however at
the www.anandtech.com review you can find the registry entry required to
override this.
Final option - if you're happy with the existing video card for other
apps and consider a V3 to be a downgrade for other games then you can
pick up a V2 1000 card pretty cheap (around $40-50 after rebate) - this
is a voodoo2 card so operates alongside existing video card so that
you'd only use it for GPL and other glide games. Performance is about
half that of V3 so probably only a viable proposition if existing card
is much faster than a V3.
Hope this helps. BTW, running GPL in software video mode is only useful
in that it tells you you need to by a voodoo accelerator :-)
