GP3 and GPL: video card for both?

by (alan » Wed, 02 Aug 2000 04:00:00

I am finding the trusty Thriller, though fine for GPL with my
overclocked Celeron running at 450, is pretty hopeless for GP3.

I can't afford the newest video cards, but maybe a GeForce (ie 1 not
2) or a Voodoo3 card.

Am I right in thinking I'll need to get the Voodoo 3 to run GPL as
well as GP3? or is the GeForce OK for GPL - ie at least as good as the
Thriller?

Any other suggestions?

My opinion only...
with the new direct x driver for GPL, the Geforce should be fine for GPL. I
am using a TNT2 Ultra and it works fine. Frame rates are 36 at 1280 X1024
res, this is on my Athlon 650. But I've noticed that cpu power is not that
critical for GPL. So you should also get good performance with your Celery
450.

I run GPL with a V3000 card on my celeron running at 464 mhz, with great
results. I have not picked up GP3 yet, as it is not available here yet, but
I would think it would run it ok as it's d3d is pretty good.
However, with the newer sims coming out and the d3d patch for GPL, you might
seriously consider the GeForce .

GP3 and GPL: video card for both?

Alan,

Not sure where you're from, but I'm in Calif and have recently upgraded to
a V5 card, so I have my V3000 for sale.  Email me if you're interested.

Bob
Thanks for the offer, but I'm in Perth Western Australia.  Anyone over
here got either the GeForce or V3000 for sale?
I'll probably end up getting whatever's cheapest!
Cheers
Alan.
