Has anyone had trouble using either Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback
Wheel or the Logitech WingMan Formula Force PC Racing Wheel?

Can't complain about either of my Logitech FF wheels; one is the actual red
PC one and the other is the original blue one intended for PS2.  (The new
blue one apparently no longer works on PC, and feels like ***anyway.)

My old MSFF gameport model works fine too (just don't attempt to load the
drivers).

My Precision Racing wheel didm't work at first until I downloaded a
compatability update from Windows Update. Works fine now, just need to
work out if it's possible to get split axis on the pedals, and how to use
the paddles for gear changes in GP3.

Can you post how you managed to get it working correctly then, please ? Because, it's
utter shite with Microsoft's XP built in drivers and Microsoft themselves have  publicly
stated that they will NOT be supporting the gameport wheel.
It will work, but it's anything but "fine" .

From what I've read, USB versions of most wheels work flawlessly in XP, but gameport/serial port
versions have little to no support.

Can you fiddle with force feedback settings?

I had to get MS to send me the v4 of the sidewinder software for my
Precision wheel - which is a) not the sam eas the one in the FF2 joystick
box, and b) not available for download for some strage reason - though it
claimed on install that XP was not supported.

Plug the wheel into the gameport, go to the Game Controllers Control Panel
Applet, click on add, select Microsoft Sidewinder (Auto Detect), click on OK
and then shutdown and restart your computer. When it comes back up, go back
to the control panel applet and run the calibration utility and it should
work. Of course you don't get any choice of configuration except what MS
offers - which (thankfully) is separate axis for brake and accel. I don't
have a lot of games to give it much of a workout, though, only my two
favourites - GPL and SCGT, both work fine (as I said) on my PC.

I'm not happy that MS has decided to no longer provide any support for game
controller devices, but I would really be miffed if I couldn't use my wheel
to run my sims. But then, if I had to, I would return to the way I used to
have my PC set up - dual boot - Win98SE (for sims) and WinXP (for everything
else).
