Steering Wheel for XP

Hi

Just received a new computer with Windows XP pre-installed.

I have a MSFF wheel (gameport) and MS sidewinder joypads (gameport). I
understand the gameport versions do not work in Win Xp.

Any recommendations for a wheel that works in XP with split axis with N4,
F12001, MBTR, CMR2  and Rally Trophy.

Unless there are any workarounds to get the gameport versions working.

My MS Sidewinder Precision Pro USB joystick works fine.

Now need a good USB joypad.

Hidden cost of XP !

Thanks

Karl

Have you actually tried installing the Wheel? I'm certainly running an old
gameport MSFF on WinXP quite successfully. All I did was to manually add the
Microsoft Sidewinder (Autodetect) to the game controller setup and it
detected it fine. Don't try to install any other driver software, though!

I have a logitech wingman forula force usb (phew) and have had no
problems. The drivers that shipped with xp didnt support dual axis but
i just downloaded the latest drivers from logitech and its perfect. I
have the old style wheel so im not sure what the new one is like, i
heard some reports that its a bit toy like so cant help you there.

Just this morning installed the Microsoft SideWinder FF USB wheel on Windows
XP Pro and it works just (hooray!) fine with GPL (even has a "scheme"
included).  Understand, however, that the split axis doesn't work in CMR2
(don't have it, so don't know for sure).

But you might try what Headhunter suggested in an earlier post, or what Dan
ended up doing:
(1)  Without the wheel connected, install the software (you have 3.02
downloaded from
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/sidewinder/downloads/default.asp ?).
(2) Shut down the system, add your wheel and boot.

OR:
(A)  Uninstall the software you're tussling with and shut down.
(B)  Connect the wheel, and let XP detect and install the software it has.

Both seem to work for some people.

Hi

I actually installed the wheel as per Peter`s method and it seems to work
fine.

I have not installed any driver software. I manually added Microsoft
Sidewinder (autodetect) and calibrated the wheel. It seems to be working in
split-axis mode.

I tried it with F12001 and it was pulling to the left. It stopped this after
a little while and it was great.

Any other tips for calibrating this wheel for games in Win XP ?

Anybody have good settings for f12001 ?

Thanks for the responses.
