GPL: loses controller!?

Pulled it out of the box after a couple years, then remembered: POC won't
keep controller or graphics settings. Lots of folks seem to be enjoying the
sim, what's the trick? Thanks.

I've never had it loose graphic settings, but the controller issue did
crop up from time to time.  ONce I swapped my thrustmaster wheel for a
Logitech USB, that didn't happen anymore either.

(make sure you patch it up to v1.2 and try the d3d patch...there also is a
fast cpu patch that is needed if your system is faster than ...I think it's
1.2 ghz.....

GPL: loses controller!?

I have found this problem with a number of games.
I am 99% sure that GPL stores the controller settings in the controls.cfg
file, which is located in the GPL \ Players \ [Your_Name] folder.
Now, when I have run into this problem it is because the controls.cfg file
has been marked as read only. Just right click the file, click properties
and uncheck any of the attributes boxes, such as read only, hidden etc.
GPL tries to write to this file, finds it is Read Only, and so it just does
nothing. Next time you boot, you have to go through the pain all over again.
How did the Controls.cfg file become read only you may ask?
Well in my case it was because I backed up all my Player Folders, along with
all my settings onto a CD when I stopped playing GPL 2 Years ago. Doing this
of course makes the file Read only.
Hope this solves your Problem.
Did you find, as I did that GPL is even better now with the faster hardware?

Never had a problem with lost controllers or settings in 4 years with GPL.

Only thing I can think is if, like me, you have to disconnect all but one of
your controllers to play LFS, remember to plug then back in & open & close
the game controllers applet to redetect them before running GPL.

By POC I assume you mean your PC, btw.

I only experienced 'controller loss' (even in game FF loss) when I
decided to try it out on a WIN2000 installation. It worked reasonably
well untill I installed DirectX 8.1. Then all sort of things went
haywire and I went back to playing it under WIN98. Never experienced
any real troubles there...

I believe WIN2000 already has DirectX8.1 in it. You must have doubled
it. My sys w/WIN2000 runs GPL just fine.

I had the same problem using the usb port for my controller.  I
switched to the gameport on the sound card and that solved the
problem.
