GPL - FF help, please.

by Craig Jone » Wed, 07 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Okay, so I finally got the 1.2 patch to work (nobody told me I
had to add the files to the GPL directory ;-)), but Im not
having a lot of luck with force feedback. Like I havent got any.

The readme file suggests adding the line:

 [ Joy ]
allow_force_feedback = 1

but its already there. Likewise:

force_feedback_latency = 0.085 ;                 in seconds
force_feedback_damping= 40.0 ;           magic number
max_steering_torque = 225.0 ;           in Newton-inches

So what am I doing wrong?

My system:

Celeron 433
Voodoo 3 2000
64mb RAM
Microsoft FF wheel and pedals

Thanks guys

Have you got rid of the comment marks ( ; ) on each line? If they are there,
they rem the line out.

Only remove the ";"'s at the front of the lines!! -Not the ones behind the
numbers!

Also, if you're using WinVROC make sure you don't override your FF settings
(advanced tab) when connecting.

The allow FF line is already there but it should come with the value
set to 0.  You must change it to 1.  The core.ini comes named
core.ini.sample.  You must rename it core.ini.  Check the dos name in
properties and make sure it is exactly core.ini

GPL - FF help, please.

This problem is usually caused by an incorrectly named core.ini
file.  This may occur if you have chosen to have Windows hide
file extensions for known file types.

To check the name of the file where you have made the force
feedback entry changes, open Explorer, browse to the GPL folder
and right click on the file you think is called core.ini.
Choose Properties from the pop-up menu.  In the General
properties there will be an MS-DOS filename property.  Check
what this is.  If it is not CORE.INI then the file is not named
correctly.

To rename the file, you first need to display file extensions.
To do this, click on the View menu in Explorer and select Folder
Options (or Options in Windows 95).  Click on the View tab and
look in the Advanced Settings display.  Under the Files and
Folders tree untick the "Hide file extensions for known file
types" box and select OK.  The file called core.ini in Explorer
will now be called something else (probably core.ini.sample).
Right click on the file and choose Rename from the pop-up menu.
Enter the name core.ini and click off the icon.  The icon will
change to a pad with lines on with a cog in the bottom right
hand corner.

You should now get force feedback in GPL.  This if course
assumes you have a force feedback device. :-)

Cheers

Phil

Thanks, guys ;-)

Renaming core.ini(.sample) worked, and now the 'ring is even
harder (but more fun!).
