Wing Commander Armada allows 2 players on one computer with an over/under
or side/side display.

BC racers is a hoot.

Slipstream 5000 does it, not too bad.  Kinda hard to see though on
half a screen.  :(

Definitely NOT Wing Commander 2, which is strictly single player.

Wing Commander Armada, of course, supports split-screen 2-player even on a
DX2/66.  Too bad it's not a very good game.

The best I have played is Dynablaster from Hudson Software. It is simple,
***ive and funny. FOUR players cand play it simultanously (two with
joysticks and two with keyboard). The only (minor) problem is that older
versions like mine use C-64 joysticks attached to special lpt-adapter(?)
I guess the newer versions are not that complicated.

Another good multiplayer game is Scorched Earth. It is a tank game with lots
of tricky ammunition. Great value,  I recommend! (It's even shareware.)

Have a nice time!

There's the failed "Evasive Action" air combat game.  Mildly entertaining.

m> Mortal Kombat 3.

IMHO EVERY fighting game can be played with 2 players on a single machine.

One must Fall
Mortal Kombat series
SSF2T
Rise of the Robots
Primal Rage

There are LOTS of Strategy games which meet the criteria as well:

History Line
Battle Isle series
Warlords 2
Wing Commander Armada
Pizza Tycoon
Serf City
Empire Deluxe

Plus a lot more I forgot.

So they DO exist.

What about the older game of Gauntlet (up to 4 on the keyboard).

Super Speed, found on one of PC Gamer's demo CD's, is a four person game
that can be played on one computer.  It is kind of like Super Sprint
  on SNES.
