Network error #10049 with GPL on line

by Mike Turne » Thu, 31 Dec 1998 04:00:00

While racing on line (via my USR V90 modem) i have had several races
that i have lost the connection on and of course thats the end of my
race, which can be pretty disapointing especially if its say the last
few laps and you were leading:-(

I normally get good pings about .222 or less to whoever is serving and
have good frame rates.

If i get a warning notice at the top of the screen saying "Network error
#10049" i know that i have about 5-10 secs of racing left before being
disco'd.

I found a winsock error which points to this 10049 error and it says,
host overloaded or failed to sync.

If anyone from Papy is reading this perhaps they would like to comment?

Or if anyone with info on what if anything can be done to lessen the
chances of this happening can comment, apart from the obvious "get a
cable modem or lan connect gag!" then i'm all ears as are others i'm
sure.

Not from Papyrus, but in my experience, I only get 10049 when my
ISP has been disconnected (ie: modem hung up).  I've got an external
modem, so that's easy to monitor (yeah, them little flashin' lights do
mean something :).  I would look at connection problems with your ISP.
Also, check if your browser is set to "disconnect after idle for xx
minutes" and turn that off.

"But in a way, fear is a big part of racing, because if there was
nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark
