But doesn't have the chicane at the end of the back straight...I guess
that is a fairly recent addition to the road course....

Forgive me for picking a nit, but in 1967 the practice of naming races after
sponsors had yet to malignantly infect the motor racing world.

It's the Daytona road course, and if Rolex wants me to call it otherwise
they can ***y well pay me for it.

Sorry, I'll get off my old foggy soap box now.

I agree with your sentiment, but with a Daytona Oval available and the
Road course it just makes it easier to
keep them separate..perhaps the 24hr name could be incorparated in some way.

I totally agree...I guess the designer didn't realize that there are other
races at the daytona road course...oh well.

Blimey - does the US really name the *tracks* after sponsors, and not
just the races? I'm not sure how "Marmite Silverstone" or summat would
go down here... :-)

Actually, the U.S. has TWO tracks that are sponsor-named:

1. C***te Motor Speedway is now Lowe's Motor Speedway at C***te.
Lowe's is a damn home-improvement store.

2. Laguna Seca Raceway is now the Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. I'm sure we
all know what Mazda is...

Personally, I think it sucks ass, or arse for my brothers across the pond...

Of course everybody but the announcers (who aren't allowed to) still calls
these tracks C***te and Laguna Seca, and probably always will.

Racing is just catching up with the times. Almost every baseball, football,
basketball and hockey facility in North America is named after the major
sponsor.

Here's your choice: a sponsor-named track that is still there, or a
subdivision where the track used to be because the operators ran out of
money.

I live in British Columbia. We used to have a great road track called
Westwood. There are only houses there now :(

There used to be a circuit near here called Westmead (where they held F1
races in 1961/2), now there is an industrial estate!
