I don't see how the stands can stay packed, TV revenues are sky-high, but the
stadium owners need subsidies from corporations?  It might be ok if the ticket
prices went down because the teams get the extra money.  But, prices go up
almost every year, to the point where the average family almost can't afford to
go to a sports event anymore.  If the owners would stop caving in to the greedy
athletes, the problem would go away(or at least be smaller).  *No one* deserves
multi-millons a year just to play a stick-and-ball game...<sigh>

Shit, if Laguna Seca had to become a corporate ***, couldn't they at least
have found an AMERICAN corporation???

This whole insane inflation is going to have to end at some point and it
probably will end the same way the dot-com insanity ended, by a whole bunch
of people all losing a ton of money at the same time. But before that
happens a lot of revered sports teams are going to disappear (like the
Montreal Canadians for example).

This type of thing doesn't happen to ordinary businesses, it just happens to
sports (because investors like to be associated with sports; it makes them
feel young and cool) and high tech (because investors think high tech is
somehow "different" than other business).

If only salaries were tied to GPL prowess. At least I'd be in the middle
salary range <g>

Doh!  I didn't realize that.  I know they jointly built the 1991 Escort(of
which I owned one).  Maybe that experience was so traumatic that I blocked out
the connection....<g>
