F1 2002 demo...Steering Help Functionality on by default?

I found this line in the .plr file..Steering Help Functionality="1" // 0 =
new help, 1 = new help + grip, 2 = original F1 2001, 3 = original + grip

Is this some kind of trick that ea is playing on everyone? I was wondering
why my steering wheel would turn when I wasn't. I set it to 2 and it was
fine. Was it on by default or just on my machine?

1st thing I do is cycle thru all the help options while exiting pit lane for
the first time. that way it 'should' disable everything...dunno if the text
file overides the in-game settings tho..

Sorry, but you missed one line, and it was the one above
The first line "Steering help" sets it to either on (1) or off (0)
then the line after sets it to different steering-helps.
I dont know what you mean by steering wheel turn when you werent?.. the
wheels want to point straight anyway, so if you let go of the wheel it will
try to center itself, maybe thats what you mean?

Steering Help="0"
Steering Help Functionality="1" // 0 = new help, 1 = new help + grip, 2 =
original F1 2001, 3 = original + grip

I've noticied this as well. Just as I approach a turn, my FF wheel will start
to turn on it's own in the direction of the turns. It does this in 2001 AND
2002, with steering help off.  I'll check out my plr file and go from there.
Thanks.

You most likely need to change the FF slider from positive to negative.

No it has nothing to do with ff. Just open your .plr file and look, its on
by default. There is four different settings besides the normal steering
help in the game. It can only be toggled by manually editing the .plr file.
That's why I thought E.A. was up to something by making the game have
steering help functionality on by default. It made me think I was quicker,
the help is very subtle so unless you keep the wheel straight and go thru a
turn you probably won't notice it.

My post was directed at Rod120469, not you; sorry for the confusion.
Regarding the problem you are having, I believe Andreas Nystrom has the
correct explanation in his reply to you.
