GPL freezes on joining VROC race

I've joined races via winVROC in the past (both via modem and for a time
last year cable modem when I was in the US) without problem however
after recently getting cable here in the UK and also installing a
LinkSys firewall I'm finding that if I try to join a race GPL starts up
but locks solid when it attempts to setup the network connection.

I'm pretty sure there's something obvious wrong (I seem to think I had
this problem once before but I forgot what I did then!). My PC is given
a static IP on the local LAN (in the 192.168.1.x range) and I've tried
both with the PC setup normally and as a DMZ machine however result is
the same.

Any ideas?

Do you have FSAA on?  It doesnt work from VROC for some strange reason

Nope- I'm running on a V3 2000
