A simple request...
When hosting a VROC race, please wait until all drivers finish the
race before ending the race.
I am fairly new at GPL so I sometimes end up a lap or two down from
the leaders, but many times I don't even get to finish my race because
the host will end the session when he is done, and some of us slower
guys are trying to finish. That is very upsetting to say the least,
and frankly is rude on behalf of the slower guys.
I could understand if a guy is 20 laps or so down, but when I am only
3 or so laps down, I would like to finish my race.
What do you others think?

Sure, Gunslinger, you should be allowed to finish your race - but that
means finishing the lap you are on when the leader takes the chequered
flag.

That's the way it works in real racing, and nothing you do after that
will affect the results.

What? Then why does the sim always wait until I have completed all
laps before giving me the checkered flag and the Pit In message?
I was under the impression that I had to finish all laps.
If that is so, how will I know when the leader has finished,
Since I don't get a checkered flag until my last lap?

I think the corner workers start waving all their flags as soon as the
winner crosses the line.  You'll see them at every corner.

Okay, perfect example.
This morning I did an 11 lap race at Monza.I got screwed up and was 3
laps down.
When I had three laps left (as in on the pit board it said L3)
I started seeing people say nice race to the winner.
I did not get any flags.
I did another lap.. now the pit board said L2
Still no flags
At 1 lap on my pit board people were disconnecting.. Now I had the
white flag waving.
After I crossed the line the pit board said L0
Now I was getting the flagmen all waving different flags.. One was
waving blue, another green, another yellow, and another checkered.
I did one more lap, as I came around the last turn the pit board said
PIT IN
See where my confusion is coming from?

If this is what's happening, then there's something wrong.

As another confirmed slug, I'd like to put in my experience
the host let me finish, but then, as soon as I made it to the
chat screen, he terminated the session, so I couldn't see
any of my pitiful results....Have patience with us backmarkers

Each time you come near the start/finish line you should see your pitboard
(if it is set to come up automatically), take note of how many laps you have
left - displayed in the top right.

When you are doing your final lap (unless you get lapped by the leader as
the board is displayed) it will show L1. When you cross the line after this
lap it will show L0. If you continue around to the start/finish line again,
the Pit In sign will be displayed, but you should be entering the pits
before this is shown.

I can't remember if the flag marshalls all start to wave their flags when
you cross the line at the end of your last lap or just after the leader
crosses the line on his last lap. They are waving different colours at each
corner. It does not matter how many laps you are down, the race is over when
the leader finishes his last lap.

It would be polite for the host to wait for all the drivers to enter the
pits. Perhaps the drivers a towards the back could Esc Enter back to the pit
lane instead of completing the slow down lap. Especially at Nurburgring!

Bye,
Ian

Try this. As soon as you finish, click on the save race replay button, hit
any letter on keyboard and hit enter. It takes about 5 seconds and you have
a record of your moments of glory :). Then go to the chat screen. I've
practiced this move a lot and find that I can beat the average host's
newspaper button. Gives you something to review with times and position and
see where you got it right or wrong and you can always delete it later.

I thought that was a definite un-written rule: once you cross the
checquered flag, stop the car and esc-enter. No dawdling around the
track (it's annoying when people do cooldown laps at Spa).

I can see waiting if I'm Tail-end Charlie on the lead lap.  I wouldn't expect
for anybody to wait while I drove the 3 laps I was down.  Besides, when you
cross the line after the leader takes the checker, your race is over, too....

You don't get to drive those three laps.  If you're laps down, your race
is over when you cross the finish line after the winner takes the
checkers.

The above notwithstanding, it's just plain rude to press the red button
BEFORE all of the drivers have taken the checkered flag. Anyone who does
so, IMHO, is an ***.
