video card settings....

First, system.

Dell p-3 600
256 megs ram
SBLive
Radeon 64 meg

I had a Geforce 256 32 meg card originally.  N4 - With 33 car field, starting
at the back of talladega, 34 fps

With the new card, all video settings in N4 left the same, 31-33 fps.

This is in D3D where my computer has always run best.
Tried OpenGL - drop was to 21 fps.

What the heck is going on.  Had to change cards when the old one blew up, and
really figured to see a "few more" fps when going to the 64 meg card.  Now I
would be happy with the old fps..

Any Ideas Guru's?

Well, you won't really see much of an improvement simply because its a
64mb card instead of 32mb. The extra RAM will only let you run higher
resolutions and more colours.

The problem is here

N4 is pretty cpu intensive, especially with a full field. A 1ghz+ cpu
would really kick on, but not the p3 600. On less cpu intensive games
like Q3, UT, etc. you'll probably get a speed boost with the new card,
since they won't stress the cpu as much.

Go to your control panel/display and make sure that
vsync is disabled for OpenGL.
