How did that car get air? Anyone know?

probably purposely turned backwards by swish-swoshing the wheel until the
traction broke... :-)

That may be the case, but does that mean the roof spoilers don't work?

Not sure if I can tell the story :)

Just to summarise, somebody at Papyrus unleashed hell in the tri-oval ;-D

I'm going to guess that the roof flaps DO work, but you'll notice that even
with roof flaps, cars do flip at Daytona and Talladega sometimes from spinning
and getting their backs to the wind.  This happened to both Jeff Green and
Michael Waltrip in the Busch race at Daytona this season.

Roof flaps don't keep a car from flipping. They keep it from getting 30' in
the air and possible going over the fence. I remember the days before flaps.
it would look like an aircraft taking off. Straight up in the air once the
back was turned around.

I'd hazard that we probably won't actually see the flaps work in game as
well.  I just mean they won't visibly pop up.  Just think of all the
open races on WON... All them flaps might creat serious frame rate
hits...

How can a flap create serious framerate hits??

It's a simply on/off feature.  Consider this like a door that opens/close in
a FPS game when somebody goes near it, or somebody raising his hand in GPL.
It's something you can easily put on the client side, and not care at all
about any potential bandwidth for it (which would be pretty low nonetheless)

all i am thinking about is if all of a sudden u have 5-6 cars in front
of u have the flaps pop up, its jus somemore candy to be drawn on
screen, bandwidth (at least connection wise) isn't the issue.  Its just
more your card will have to draw.  If they go from invisible to straight
up (with no animations) that would be less sure.

I no expert but it makes sense to me, that the more a vid card/cpu has
to draw the lower the frame rate will be

If their flaps are up, there's probably a ton of smoke and parts and dust in
the air as well.  I doubt the flaps themselves will be the main strain on
the graphics engine at that point :-)

Well, it has to draw SOMETHING there, all it would really require would be
some CPU time to determine whether or not the pixels there are the
environment or if they're body color..

Wow, an incredible rectangle polygon.  It's gonna load up the CPU watch
out!!! <vbg>

I mean, just think if they -actually- allow the roof flap to be colored in
the paint kit.  YOWZA, worse framerate than F1 2000.
